Im doing some research into which kit to buy.

Can anyone tell me how "good" the vintage kits are?

It seems as if all i need to do is sort a nice vw chassis out and paint the body. everything else seems to be included in the kit?

Are there better value for money kit makers?

Vintage seem to be the one that people respect or am I getting it wrong.

Sorry for all the questions, im in the UK and supprisingly there is not much info over here.

Kind Regards

Why a kit?
Is it the joy of building, or to save some $$$ ?
From a value standpoint; find a nice low mileage Vintage Speedster. Vintage rebuilds or replaces everything when they build a car. It's not a re-bodied old VW with hundreds of thousands of miles on it. It's virtually a new vehicle.
They come up for sale all the time. They are often just a few years old with under 10k miles on them. They run from about $15k to $22k.
Compare that to a $13,900 base price for a kit, and you can see why a used Vintage is a good buy.
Read the Vintage Speedster's note on theor web site regarding assembling a speedster kit. This is a labor intensive project that requires welding, wiring, fabrication, air cooled knowledge, parts sourcing and months of your time. It is a task only for the very experienced builder. If you have the past experience and want to know each and every nut and bolt on your speedster then, go for the kit.

~ You will not save much of anything money wise as I've been there many times building speedsters and other replicas. Unless, you happen to step into a really good unassembled package deal.
Do a detailed work sheet, ask questions, continue to add to the worksheet, ask more quetions. Then, add another 25% to the bottom line as you'll need to to cover the misc. sales tax, shipping, etc. ~Alan
The Vintage is a great car, but their kit is a serious undertaking. Another option is a Deluxe Pre-assembled Body Kit (DPBK) from Special Edition who distributes the Beck Speedster here in the states. I believe it is sold in the UK as the Chamonix. Check out the Beck site for details. This sort of kit removes the need for welding, painting, wiring and upholstery. A bunch of the guys on this site built mine from such a kit in 16 hours at the '06 Carlisle show. This might be a better way to get a car together relatively quickly, unless you really want to do all that stuff.
