I'm not a big fan of my steering wheel in my 911 so I want to change it. I like the Momo Prototipo because it looks classic and from around that period but they aren't cheap and they aren't in stock in most places so finding one may be a problem. I'm open to what anyone may have but it'll have to be something realatively easy to get a hub for or it'll have to be reallllllly cool if I have to fab something. Thanks.

As always, if I'm going to pay for something I much rather buy it from someone I know, so even though this isn't specifically Speedster oriented I figured I'd look here as there are lots of car guys and gals that have other cars.

I think something in a chrome chain would be appropriate...
Yea, and some dingle balls all around the window frames....
You buy a car that is known for being expensive and then you go cheap on us.....That 911 will be worthless in no time....

...and install some green wheel well lights. It will be awesome.
The dingle balls and green wheel well lights are already on the car! Jeez, do you guy think I don't have my priorities in line? I know what makes a Porsche stand out. I need a pimp steering wheel dammit!!! I didn't even consider the chain one, that's perfect!!
Alright, lets get back to the business at hand. I'm not saying I won't pay for the Momo wheel, I'm saying I can't get one as fast as I'd like so I'm looking elsewhere. Some of you may know that the stock wheel is waaaayyyy close to the dash (like less than 2") and when making certain types of "spirited" turns it's kinda freaky. It seems the Prototipo I like may still be a little closer than I'd like so I may go with one that has a little more dish. I promise that's it. No more mods after that, at least not to the body or interior. Other than the wheel the car is perfect just the way it is, I wouldn't do a thing to it.
As far as underneath, well, we'll see but probably nothing more than an exhaust upgrade.

Mickey,
I have a MOMO wheel, the style pictured below.

Not too old, looks pretty much brand new. It's about a 14 inch diameter.
You can have it if you want it.
Lemme know,

If Mickey is not interested in your wheel, I would be. I just got the Porsche bug (no pun intended) and got a 16 yr old unfinished CMC project that needs some interior finishing. It has a cheap wheel now. Thanks.

You can find your Momo wheel on pelican for $209. Another great option is the 930 wheel.
Both are bad %ss wheels for an older 911.

Thanks TC, that's very generous. The Momo Mod 07 is on the way. I wanted something that got the wheel closer to me and the Prototipo wasn't gonna do it without a spacer. It's not the look I wanted but it'll do the job I wanted. Man, those 911's are soooooo much fun to drive! I can't believe I didn't get one sooner.
Mickey, it sounds like this message is a little too late, but here's a link to a wheel Mike Lempert found on eBay. He said to tell you that if you can get it for $400, it'll be an incredible deal.

Lane,I do not think a wood steering wheel would look good on a '83 911. Great looking wheel though for an older 911.
Mickey, that is an awesome choice you made with the mod 7.

Here's a quick shot of the steering wheel.

It's a MOMO Monte Carlo, here's a link to the wheel offered through Pelican Parts. They changed the thumb pads recently.

I don't have the adapter, but DO have the Porsche crest horn button. If you want, you can have wheel and horn button for $80 obo and I'll cover shipping.
Either way, yes or no, no biggie.

Lane,
That would have been the wheel had I gone late 60's early 70's, either that or a Nardi. I'll put a pic up when I get it installed.
Lambros,
Thanks. I think the wheel will be perfect for the driving position I'm looking for. I don't know what Porsche was thinking when thay made the original wheel. At least twice a day I hit the horn when turning because the horn button/pad is so big.
I'm debating on a short shift for it as well because in second the shifter knob is practically touching the seat, a little less throw would be nice but I'm not in a big hurry.

That Momo is a much better choice for the '83. Nice!
