I do?

Really??

Honestly, Dells are no big deal.  You put them in......And they work.  I've had one clogged idle jet since building the engine in 1998 (although, in retrospect, that was probably a leaky manifold gasket).  Just brought the engine back to life after winter hibernation and it started easily and runs super.  Spent four hours, yesterday, driving all over NE Connecticut with a couple of 356-A coupes and she didn't skip a beat.

Love those Dells.....

Todd is just looking to get his car jetted properly. Neither Weber nor Dellorto have a lock on that, it is always up to the individual tuner and the engine combo how the jetting turns out.

I mean, are we throwing the baby out with the bathwater? I drove all around locally yesterday after a car show. Never missed a beat either.

Love those Webers.....

Todd:  you might also find that you need a "tween" size, like a 55 is too small while a 60 is too big.  If that's the case, you might try getting a set of actetylene torch reamers at a welding store.  They come in a variety of small sizes in one kit, pretty cost effective and they'll let you open up a jet size in half-steps (like reaming a 55 to a 57.5 or so).  Gn

I haven't tried 60 yet.  Went from 52 to 55 so far that's why I was going with .57.  After reading Danny's how to page on spyderclub, and working with marksbug, bought a synch snail, got that all dialed in and it was a little off even though Marksbug just did it a couple months ago for me...but I am two and a half turns out on the number three and four idle mix and two plus on the one and two.

It is running rich for sure so just want to check what the .57 will do next.  I had to turn them out that far to get the carbs to stop hissing and spitting and popping at me up through about 2000 rpm.  I wish I was a torch kind of guy...not yet and someday will be so I just figured for now I will have to buy the jets.  But the last ones I bought cost twelve bucks to ship and they weigh all of about an ounce.  I also just ordered the Allen head idle holders...probably the most exciting purchase so far!  I installed a breather box, and just now got my gene berg valve covers with the nipple welded in so hopefully get these jets dial in, get it breathing and venting right, and I should be good to go for NEXT years Carlisle run.  I have to get Marksbug and woflgang who live 5 seconds from each other to get their cars done so we caravan with the rest of the Florida peeps!

i feel like I could drive the car as is, but being that far turned out is not right.  It runs decent.  Definitely better with the bigger jets, but still just doesn't feel dialed in.

btw I can't thank everyone enough for all the tips.  I can't believe I actually synched my carbs on my own.  i never got to do half this stuff on my first speedster but this time I am he'll bent on learning...  A big thanks to Marksbug and Danny P...both have taken a lot of time to talk to me on this stuff...thanks your your patience and helping a very beginner through it.

I'm running .57 idles on my 40 IDF's. I bought them from a guy in Italy who sells them on eBay. The shipping was far less than $12.00.

What altitude are you at? I live in the Sierra Foothills so my elevation is from 1,200 - 3,000 typically. 55's were a little lean and 60's too rich. The .55's should be fine for your size engine if you're close to sea level. Have you checked your timing?

The Weber carbs are great once they're clean. They come from the factory filled with crap and need to be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly before they're worth a damn.

Are your carbs still stock? They come with a little 28 Venturi and 115 mains. On a 1915 you'll want to bump the venturis up to 32 and the mains to 145 at least. The gas mileage goes down but performance is better.
