If you have a oil filter in line with your external cooler I don't think this setup is a good idea.
Rusty, why is that?
I'd think you'd want the filter before the thermostat on the from engine side. I wouldn't put on other side of thermostat as that is not active when engine is cold.

That unit looks like it blocks the flow until the engine gets up to operating temp. While the flow is blocked there won't be any filtering taking place as the oil stays in the engine.
Whups.. looking at the pic again it does do a bypass to allow the flow back to the engine.
My brother, Stan, and I both use the MOCAL sandwich plate.
Looks like jewelry, works like crazy.
I'm the one with hair......

Another vote for the MOCAL unit.
Seriously, I just don't get it. The MOCAL sandwich means 2 less hoses, 4 less AN fittings, and a much cleaner set-up. Why do we keep looking at other stuff?
Just put in the Mocal and your done. Just be sure you know which ports are which. Mocal doesn't mark them "in" and "out"......Bruce
The aircooled link, takes me to the Mocal for type 4's. Is this also used on type1's, vs. their listing for type 1 Mocal sandwich.
I can see the benefit of keeping it simple. The filter mount adds 1.3" length that I don't have (tire clearance). Shorter filter or relocate it are options needed to make it work for me.
...one more vote for the Mocal, it's what I use. It still allows some flow before fully opening to the cooler (I called them and asked).
And yes, Rusty, my hose goes from the oil pump to oil filter, to Mocal sandwich plate which (depending on temperature), sends it back to the engine or to the Setrab fan-pack cooler and then back to the engine.
