Canada = dumb-ass-rules'
With free trade, why shouldn't I be able to buy a SAW and bring it up to Canada? (duty free)
And....why shouldn't someone in Alberta (province next to B.C.) be able to buy a new IM? I think all of Ralph Nader's relatives moved to Canada, 20 years ago, and went into politics.

I have been through this process lately. Canadian Customs will not allow a Porsche Speedster reproduction that has been (manufactured or remanufactured from a VW to a Porsche) less than 15 years old. So your looking at a Speedster that is 1990 or older. It seems that it doesn't matter if it is registered as a VW or not (in the States). They qualify their decision based on the year that the fabrication was completed. My last discussion with them led me to believe that they base their decision on what type of car it is based on the "last time the car was safetied" (or the last time the car was inspected for road worthiness. Check out Mike's link, it will tell you what you can and can't bring in to the country.

By the way Mike, your shirts are coming...busy, busy month!

Rex...If you would like to hear the full story about my speedster send me a personal email, I won't bore all of the members with the sordid details.
Where are you in Canada? Did you get a hold of the guy in Ancaster Ontario? The name of his business is actually Village Auto Sales. His name was Dave Piper and his Email is villageauto@bellnet.ca

Hi, greetings from TO. I've brought in many cars from US over the past 25 years, including a "58" speedster and a "79" Never had a problem. It just needs to be over 25 years old and confirm to Canadian regulations, though I've been told recently that you can't bring a "kit car" into Canada any more. I don't know if this is correct. I still have both speesters.

Ray...I just called one of the numbers listed in the telephone book under Canada Customs...For what it is worth...I would invest my money in a speedster that was built in 1990 or older, this way you can bring it into Canada, (still with a bit of grief...they won't let you do anything without giving you some grief)legally with no problems.
If you would like to discuss this issue further (and my unusual method of dealing with this situation) you can usually reach me during the day at my office

Good luck
