I apologize if this is the wrong forum (I'm new here and didn't see a forum dedicated to local regions, get-togethers, etc.) but I'm wondering if anyone in either Phoenix (my current home town) or Austin (my soon to be new hometown) has a Speedster and wouldn't mind showing it off to me?

I've never seen one in person (they look tiny on the Youtube videos) and would like to see/touch/drive one before committing to a purchase. I was originally leaning toward a SAS before I learned about the 18-24 month wait time. Now I'm leaning more toward either a JPS or Vintage, as they seem to be more readily available, not to mention I think I can get into one for low 20's, which is more toward my liking.

Thanks in advance!

Harrison.

Thanks for the tip Tom--that is a pretty cool feature!

Unfortunately it doesn't tell me if a member owns a Speedster or not (I'm on the map of course and don't yet own), but more importantly, I'm not comfortable reaching out to members directly and imposing upon them.

I thought that if I put this general forum message out there and an owner(s) saw it and was as generous and giving of their time as you've been with me, then perhaps they could respond and let me know if they don't mind meeting up locally.

Thanks!

Harrison.

Thanks Bob--I do see that forum now!

I don't see anything upcoming in either Phx or Austin, but that's ok.

Perhaps once I buy and join the club, maybe I'll suggest a set of regional sub-forums. When I had my e39 '03 540 M-sport and spent a fair amount of time on the BMW boards, we had a series of local/regional forums (NE, Mid-Atlantic, SE, Central, TX, CA, NW, etc.) and got together regularly with other local car nuts, lol!

I think it'd be fun to maybe get together on a regular (once/month or so) basis during nice weather to have a little caravan ride someplace interesting!

No Ron, George was kind enough to take my call this afternoon and we had a very pleasant chat. He's also offered to meet with me in person to discuss his car, experience, and even let me take his for a short spin. I suspect we'll be getting together in a weekend or two.

My follow-up post was meant to be more of a new forum recommendation to the board owner(s)/mod(s), as I suspect we're all the type of people that have similar interests, and if we had more specific regional forums that could help bring us together, it might be fun to meet in person, grab a beer or some lunch, have a nice caravan drive, etc.

I have several clients in Austin, both aircooled and watercooled.  We have a strict policy on client privacy, but I'd be happy to pass along your details to them.  Our price point, both new and used, is above your mentioned comfort level, but if you were considering an SAS at one point, then you were certainly above the $20k mark.  Anyway, even if you aren't considering a Beck, it will give you a small group of local guys to cruise with...

Harrison - here is a short clip of Chris when he came to the West Coast to check out his coupe! Eddy Karyadi (silver JPS coupe) and I (metallic silver Vintage) met up with Chris and we took a spin on the infamous Mulholland Drive.

Doug - that would be a fun trip! I have a friend near Congress, AZ, that I could visit as well! One of these days....
