The original 550 had 3.5"x16" steel centers with alloy hoops. The tires were Dunlops. They were 25.5" tall and were 5.00/5.25x16 bias ply tires. Per my "All things Original 550 Spyder" resource, the closest tire today to an original Porsche 550 tire is the Coker Excelsior Stahl Sport in 5.00x16 which are 25" tall. Dunlop makes a tire in 5.50x16 but they are 27" tall and may cause rubbing issues. This information comes from herr Dr. Ferdinand Anand Rajani Porsche.
Stick with the 5.00/16 or a 500/525 combo as the taller will cause issues. Also stick with the bias LOOK radials and ignore the actual vintage bias ply tires, they handle horribly.
They did 131.5 mph in a Spyder back in the day on those bias tires. Yeah, that's pretty crazy. I can't imagine quite that fast on those tires. I have hit 125 though.
