Advice & questions?
best brand-style-price, best sensor brand & wires, who'd you buy from, permanent installed, experience using driving & using it to get jets dialed in? A while ago I bought an 5/8 oval center outlet A1 from Tiger and ordered it with a bung and plug for future 02 use, so looking to buy.

Doug,

I bought the PLX Devices SM-AFR which is a wide-band device. It has a nice LED gauge that can be easily mounted under the dash and a senser that goes into the bung in your muffler. The unit is about 2" x 3" and 1" thick and the round guage is slightly over 2".

I got it about a year ago thinking I might install it but I haven't
done so--I did plug it into the lighter socket and installed the senser to check my AFR and it was perfect at all speeds so I didn't do anthing else with it.

Google PLX Devices and see what they have that you might like..

Mine was $271. including a gauge plus shipping.

It is a slick, good looking unit and if you are dialing in carbs you can nail the exact jets you need..

Doug,
I have a powerdex AFX from ngk sparkplugs.

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/products/performance/afx.asp

It works great and it's easy to read! The website above has all of the details.

I think I paid around $260.00 for the kit that includes everything you need. It was the least expensive one that I could find at the time. I've used it without problems for over 2 years on my motorcycles and my Speedster.

It does have the capability to use its' feed back to record or trigger other systems or actions if you want to do those kinds of things.

It does everything their website says it does.

I only use it for set up when I want to monitor AFR as it happens.

After I'm satisfied with the set up, I use one of those simple 1 wire sensor and gauge that has only Leaner - Richer scale with color coded bars that light up. I think I got the 1 wire set up from CB perfomance.

Leon, thxs for the advice....I just ordered the same 3 items from air cooled. Post your results & let me know how you make out after instaling & using it to tune! I'll do the same....I've got jet gauges, now I just need to buy the jet ream tool and 2 sets of "small" jets for my kads so I can start lean and move up 'til correct per the wideband.

Doug (an easy name for me to remember LOL). I will post info later. Right now I'm waiting for some parts (new 36hp doghouse fan shroud w/flaps and thermostat plus new upper cylinder tins w/ cooling vanes) to get done and come from Awesome Powdercoat.

Where did you get the jet gauges? Let me know where you find a jet ream as I've been looking for one also.
Thanks
Doug
Doug-to-Doug: I've had the jet sizing tools for a while...you'll need both sizes: smaller size tool for idles, etc and the larger range sizeing tool for mains, air correctors. Check the size range for each tool as they may vary depending on the brand....most go in increments of 5 ( 55 then 60 then 65 etc ). I know C1P - and maybe aircooled? - or any Weber supplier - has both the sizing tool(s) and also the jet ream tool and blades kit. Check C1P....as I recall the sizing tools are not too bad, but the little jet ream tool & blades is pricey @ approx $60.
Remember to use the ream a little on BOTH sides of each jet so you end up with a "hourglass" shaped jet for better atomization versus just doing one side and ending up with a V shaped jet when you're done. FYI: Aircooled told me today that they are out of stock on the Innovate gauge & cable, but expect them in a week or so....

Doug-to-Doug: Ebay has the jet ream kit for a good price. Do a search on "ream" and you'll see the Kukko ( German )carb jet ream kit form a vendor named samstag ...about 8 items down. I just ordered one today: buy-it-now was $48 shipping included. CIP wanted $75, and their sizing tools were $48 each. I'm sure you can get the jet sizing tools on Ebay cheaper, too...
