I'm curious to see if anyone is using either of these Berg Harmonic Equalizing pulleys.   Here is the Berg Technical write-up:

All of the small-block V8 engines I have run had a harmonic damper, as well as the Corvair engine I ran once, so wondering if anyone is using one of these.

Thanks

"...Engines that are turned over 6000 from time to time must have at least the Achiever and if often in the 5500 to 6500 our Equalizer would be extremely smart..."

Maybe, for most of us, this is a solution without a problem.

My engine builder said I can rev to over 6000 safely, but when it gets to 5000, my gut says, 'that's enough.'

Elsewhere in the article, he says he was disappointed his bus engine main bearings were showing wear at 135,000 miles. Not catastrophic failure, just some wear.

OK, show of hands here, how many Speedster drivers would be bummed if their engines needed a rebuild at only 135,000 miles?

I am fairly certain that no Speedster replica engine  in the fleet has, or will ever, reach 135,000 miles.  (Suby's excepted). A rebuild before 135k is pretty much not an issue but probably a certainty.

I my case, if I live long enough, I do expect at least 100k on my Raby type 4. At 45k now, (2/3/19) it s stronger than new in every way.  I wonder if the 1915 Vintage Mexicrate I discarded is still alive.

Interesting.   I wasn't looking to increase engine longevity, but more interested in seeing if anyone had used one to lessen engine vibration at all speeds.  Like reducing the vibration from the power pulses (which often get more pronounced with more radical cams).

Most of the increased engine life that Berg saw at lower engine speeds (not drag cars) came from using counter-weighted crankshafts and I think we're all running those, and maybe one or two of us are running our cars at the drags, so it looks like the answer to my "anybody using these?" question is no.  Just curious, that's all.

Thanks, everyone!

It’s one of those things that was a Gene Bergism, Gordon. Everybody’s intrigued, but nobody ever does it. Maybe he was right. Maybe it’s just another one of those “run your engine was 7:1 compression” things. Gene Berg was a smart man, but it wasn’t like God gave him the Type 1 Bible, carved on stone tablets up on Mount Baldy.

At one time, somebody made a harmonic balancer for a Type 1, but no more. They still pop up from time to time on TheSamba. They always seemed like a better way to go to me, but what do I know?
