Louie, there are a few of those IM-6s on this site; one in New Jersey, one in the Pacific Northwest ... I don't know that anybody but an Intermeccanica owner would be able to give you the straight skinny on what to look for.
I can tell you that the advertisement has IM spelled incorrectly. I hope that car really exists, and I hope you can get it for that price.
I really like the work that company does. Henry Reisner, the man behind the magic, is accessible via that company's web presence. He will probably remember that car.
Good luck!
I wonder why the engine has CIS injection if the owner says a 3.2 engine with G-50 trans in in the car. A 3.2 Carrera engine has Motronic injection in stock form. I bet this car screams. Dave Mitchell probably knows this guy. I want to drive this car to a 356 Registry event. Louie, this is a custom built car engineered and constructed to very high standards. At 50,000 it is a steal for someone that wants what this car offers. If you call Henry at Intermeccanica, he will know everything that you need to know about this car.
Louie,

My new IM-6 has almost 5,000 miles on it and I picked it up July 9th. I have fun with mine it is NOT a garage queen.

If you want any info I agree with the others and call Henry. He will tell you what he can. If your looking for the most fun money can buy you are on the right track IMHO. BTW I have north of $85K in mine and I rebuilt the motor and suspension parts myself. Don't be afraid of the SB-100 rules if you want to build one yourself I can help guide you with that.

Shameless plug: I have a perfect 78 911 to use as a core for your project. $8,500.00 and it comes wih a rebuilt 3.0 that runs beautiful!

Nope I do not know this guy. You are correct a 3.2 with a G-50 should have Motronic in a 911. I see a MSD box so I'm thinking it could be backdated to earlier CIS which is easier to install with the engine management BS like a O2 sensor. CIS with O2 sensors began in 1980.

BTW my IM-6 "screams" with the Webers.

Hey Guys,

Spoke with Henry...what an absolute class act he is.

He knew the car..and gave me the details. Tracked down the owner...meeting with him shortly...and am 90% we will buy it.

I have been looking on and offer since I sold our JPS a couple years back.

Will let you guys know how this works out shortly..stay tuned.

Thanks for the help!
Hi Guys,
As promised....the rest of the story.

Very nice car. Not perfect but, close.

Fast, solid and it felt like a race car. Larry (owner) is a real car nut and a great guy.

We are going to pass on it. Why? He wants $80,000. Its worth that without question but, not for us.

I have seen several incredible Vintage 550s (and other great 356's) sell for less than half that. Again, I do 100% see the and appreciate the car. Its truly spectacular.

Nothing against the car or the owner. Just not for us.

I didn't share this with all of you before but, I wanted to get this for my wife....early 40th. I could tell she liked it..not loved it.
I am going to show her a few 280sl next...I bet those are a better fit.

Thanks to all of you who offered your advice and inspiration.

Peace!
Lovely car. That is a 3.0 based engine, further it's a small port engine (80 to 83). The runners are the give-away. Could be a 3mm over-bore which gives you a short stroke 3.2. The G50 kind of throws me though. You can certainly put a G50 behind a 3.0, but most people accumulate them together as in the G50 with the 3.2 motronic engine in the late Carreras.

If the car is a G50 - very cool! Super-cool upgrade!!! But this is not a motronic 3.2 because the intake on the heads are so big on those engines that you can't even bolt a small runner CIS manifold to the engine. The stud spacing is wider to accomodate the big ports. I've got both engines sitting in the shop right now, and eyballing it, I'd say it's close to half an inch different. So if it is a 3.2, then it was one made from a 3.0 which is a very, very sweet engine with an absolutely bullet proof bottom end.

Whatever exactly it is, whomever gets it will have a real treasure. Anything Henry build's is exquisite but I am especially enamored with the IM-6 builds.

There are some truly awesome sounding engines out there, but to my ears nothing sounds better than a flat six Porsche as it hits 7,000+ rpm. As some of you remember I had a worked-over 2.7 in my 1970 VW pickup. Hitting 7,000 rpm was music to my ears, but I couldn't shake the thought that if I blew up the engine the rebuild would cost more than the truck was worth.
I've only regretted selling two vehicles in my lifetime. One was my IM, which I'm now rebuilding. The other was my 1970 Porsche-powered pickup.
We had an IM in the shop this past spring (body damage - Steve's good at fiberglass repair). This car was several years old but that wonderful rich "I'm way out of your price range Angela" leather smell beckoned every time you opened the door... Leather soft to the touch, perfectly stitched and absolutely rich smelling.

Swear Henry needs to bottle that smell and sell it!

Hey Ron, was that truck of yours ever in VW and Porsche magazine? I seem to recall something like that in the mag.

BTWmy list of garage smells: leather seats, gasoline, oil, and sweet burning rubber clag on the wheelwells. For me, check all of the above, especially after last week's 1/8th mile drags!
My Mustang smells like farts inside . . .

I got it from my Father's estate when he died; he was 91 so I really can't blame the old Dude for letting 'em rip in the privacy of his own ride. On a warm morning, when I first open the door it smells like a German Fetish Club in there, even the air conditioner smells like farts.

Nothing's worked to lose the smell so far, most recently I tried Fabreze.

Ever smell Fabreze and farts? Smells just like Fabreze and farts . . . go figure . . .
Evil, Sandy said to use good old fashion vinegar. Wiped down everything with a warm mix of water and vinegar. Then leave a glass bowl with a vinegar soaked towel in the car for a few days. It will smell like salad dressing for a few days after but that will fade away. If this fails go to the pet store and get Skunk OUT. The last defense in Old German Fart smell removal.
