As promised, pics from my first speedster build in the 90's

Thanks Gordon!  My son in the first pic turns 30 this month, so I'm thinking it was about 26 years ago.  Wow, I'm old.... LOL

Ain't nuthin!  I have a photo of my son in a car seat watching me strip down my '70 bug donor.  My car is black or it could be same story (ok, your's made it on the road and was sold) --- mine still WIP).  I thought I'd get help from my son - maybe he'd want to drive it to prom or school.  ZIPPO interest on his part.  He is now 31.  Drove a Corolla for years - now a Mazda 3 Sport --- but still automatic (can't drive a manual or tell time on an analog watch). 

My son was 16 when I brought the donor home and he did help out now and then, even though the expected 6-9 month build time turned into seven years.  He was promised that he could drive it to his HS junior prom (it didn’t make it), then his senior prom (ditto) and then a couple of graduations (HS and college and still didn’t make it) and I guess he gave up on it.  

Then, he used it as a getaway car for his wedding and it broke a rocker arm shaft right after the wedding photos were taken.  🤬

Because of all that, he was soured on a replica and so bought a Porsche 996 that always starts, has cold AC and hot heat, seats his family of four and the dog and looks great (and doesn’t leak in the rain).

Replicas aren’t for everyone.  But I’m glad I have one.

Cool stories Wolfgang and Gordon.  Yeah I'm glad I pulled one out of the weeds and saved it.  I thought I would never find another basket case.... One never knows what the future holds. 

Update, made a deal today for a donor that was t-boned, big 5 front brakes,  big 5 backing plates for the rear,  2110 motor, drop spindles, adjustable beam, pre 67 steering column. Dash key ignition...ect.  It should provide all the fasteners and other stuff I may need.
