Will, I believe this will be one of Tom's "working vacations". I'll bet he's there to take pictures for his company. Enjoying the food and scenery is just a side benefit, right Tom?

BTW - He sold the IM a couple of years ago, replacing it with an Audi R8 (!). He couldn't stand being Speedsterless and recently bought a widebody VS for those days when the Carrera or R8 just aren't enough ;-)

I shoulda been a photographer.
The Tuesday Street Concours in Carmel is cancelled this year. Scroll down to the article on the middle of the first page.

You can see this event on Thursday http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/pages/about-events-driving/index.htm#tour_d'elegance
That Thurs. tour event is pretty cool. The cars stop for a few hours in Carmel, people line the streets for several blocks........then mingle around the cars, talk to the owners, etc. Everything from an original Porsche Spyder, to rare 50's & 60's Ferraris, old Bugatti's, custom bodied cars, etc. AND IT IS FREE. Granted it isn't all the cars that will be on display at Pebble, but some folks like to actually drive their old cars, so probably half the show is there. Hearing them pull up, & talking to the owners is part of the fun, some of the owners have even shipped cars from Europe. I didn't see any replicas last year....I guess you need to be invited to show in the Pebble Beach Concours, but many unique one of a kind builds. :-)
also 3 more events (possibly) worth mention:
.
1. Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally

On Friday, August 13th from 1pm to 5:30pm, over 200 classic cars will converge on Pacific Grove's Lighthouse Avenue and adjacent streets. Pacific Grove's old-fashioned Victorians and Main Street feel create a perfect backdrop for this event.
.

.
2. a new event: "Little Car Show"
.
What: "The Little Car Show". Our first annual show will be limited to 40 vehicles featuring gas powered micro, mini and little vehicles under 1,500cc and electric vehicles under 1,000 lbs.

Where: On Lighthouse Avenue, downtown Pacific Grove, between Fountain and Forest Avenues.
When: Wednesday August 11th. Setup starting at 11am Show times, noon to 6pm. Followed by a cruise along Ocean View Boulevard and Asilomar.
.
(my friend Chuck L told me about this one - he'll show his newly acquired Crosley)
