hey folks...

I ran across this link that's pretty interesting for all you gizmo nuts like myself. Mentions about today's speedster with a Subie 2.0 turbo engine that's made in Australia pricing about 50k. Wondering if anyone's has one here state-side or heard of this set-up:

Looks like RC Speedsters, of Australia, have also modernized the interior a bit, added a couple of grill vents up front, and added a very nice tonneau cover to boot. Check out the gallery as the very nice looking blue one hits the track. Here's the link:

As a New Zealander who has been madly reading as much as I can on this site, and wondering about importing something from the US and converting it to RHD and so forth, I'm rather interested in this topic or prospect. It looks like a pretty new company/site and I doubt whether they have made that many speedsters, but I plan to ask and I'd be happy to report back. In the meantime, I too would be interested in hearing if anyone knows anything about this company, or its owner Reno Chetcuti. Cheers, John.
Rudy:

Specialty Autoworks Inc.
Located in Knoxville. Comes with Suby 2.2 and bigger with an Automatic or manual 5 speed.
I just bought one. If you check the site John H has a Cab and Steve Obrien has a Cab coming out of production shortly.
Who is making these in Oz?? and how long using the Suby 2.2?
Are all other components new?
Cost of Speedster basic is about $26,000 built turn key.
I think the Cab starts at $30,000 or so.

Mike: Platinum Speedsters certainly are in my plan, and I've had a couple of good conversations with Nigel Scott the guy who owns PS. He seems like a really decent guy -- a consistent theme it seems with speedster manufacturers. The thing is, I think in the end I'm going to want something a little different to what PS do... something more like an IM roadster or a SAW cab. In the meantime, however, I'm planning to follow the advice of the guys on this site -- try and buy a used PS speedster, see what I like, what I don't like and so forth. I'm very much in idea-gathering mode at the moment, which for me at least means lots and lots of research and a fair bit of agonizing. But it was fun to see that there is at least one other manufacturer a little closer to home, even if he is rather expensive. Cheers, John.
