Not to be a jerk, but the price of admission for a cool car is knowing how to drive stick.  If you want to drive an automatic, there's loads of soccer mom cars out there to choose from.

Hopefully this doesn't belong to anyone on here!

I suffer permanent impairment from a motorcycle accident one year ago today which leaves me unable to raise my right arm above my shoulder, and unable to use my arm or hand at all without neuropathic pain. I can still drive a stick but don't know that ten years down the road I'll still be able or want to.  Regardless, I won't want to give up cars or fun.

I hope this car finds a new home with someone who can enjoy it.

Seems like there are a lot of automatics / paddle shift systems appearing in what some would consider pretty outstanding cars. Add brand names here.....

I just don't see $50 large in the car, but that is a value judgement made on pretty slim info. I hope as well that the car finds a good home. No reason transmission options shouldn't be part of the huge array of custom touches done to our cars!

It is what it is and what you're doing by denigrating the automatic transmission in a speedster is making it seem downright sinful if you have one or are contemplating one.  There are many reason why someone may want an automatic shift in their car and some are mentioned above.  Let's not be any more exclusive than we are now.  If a person wants to drive automatic, so be it.  Who is anyone on this forum to say otherwise.  Different strokes for different folks.

@Hazzbin - you need to change your screen name cause it ain't over yet buddy!

Way less cool than Mrs. Eastman's paddle-shifted Subaru Impreza is my wife's 2011 Subaru Outback with paddle shifters.  It's a good sized 'station wagon'.

It also has some weird, "Continuosly Variable Transmission" that doesn't actually shift, although when in "manual" mode it seems to have pseudo-specific rev ranges for each paddle "step".  If you launch hard from a stop and hit the paddle at just over 5 grand on the tach for each "gear" it gets you up over 80 very surprisingly fast and the tach moves in 'steps', just as you would expect.  If you leave it in "auto" mode and launch it just as hard (gas pedal matted) it runs up to about 5,400 rpm and sits there, and the speedo rises VERY quickly past 80 - even faster than done manually but the tach doesn't 'step'....it just sits there.  Takes a little getting used to (like about five minutes!)

So, to that comment about "A Subaru is not a high end machine."  Maybe not in price, but they sure as hell give high end performance.  Just try to catch a WRX driver.  Over 600hp on pump gas in an all wheel drive, super handling package?  Sounds pretty "high end" to me.

In modern cars there's no longer any real performance advantage in a manual over any one of the kinds of automatic tranny.  The only issue is one of driver involvement.  My daily driver (BMW 128i) has a reasonable 230 hp and even with the 6-speed auto is the fastest car I've ever owned.  On weekend I find myself wishing it had a manual because of the fun factor, not performance.  On weekdays sitting in traffic, I remember why the auto is so nice.  The Speedster, on the other hand, is all about involvement, which for me means a stick.  Your mileage may vary.
