Not to be a jerk, but the price of admission for a cool car is knowing how to drive stick. If you want to drive an automatic, there's loads of soccer mom cars out there to choose from.
Hopefully this doesn't belong to anyone on here!

$50,000 invested...whew.
props for that kind of conversion! not my cup of tea though
i just saw that on ebay and was going to start a thread, but remembered what my mom told me about not saying anything unkind.
i'm sure there must be an ass for that seat though.
Seems like there are a lot of automatics / paddle shift systems appearing in what some would consider pretty outstanding cars. Add brand names here.....
I just don't see $50 large in the car, but that is a value judgement made on pretty slim info. I hope as well that the car finds a good home. No reason transmission options shouldn't be part of the huge array of custom touches done to our cars!
I was just going to add that I have talked to at least 2 disabled persons who owned automatic speedsters. Then I saw Hazzbin's post. It may take a while, but I'm sure there is a buyer who needs a auto transmission and not by choice.

It is what it is and what you're doing by denigrating the automatic transmission in a speedster is making it seem downright sinful if you have one or are contemplating one. There are many reason why someone may want an automatic shift in their car and some are mentioned above. Let's not be any more exclusive than we are now. If a person wants to drive automatic, so be it. Who is anyone on this forum to say otherwise. Different strokes for different folks.
Well put, Jim!

This car is an automatic. All done with his fingers on the steering wheel.
Era, not all cool cars are sticks.....& yes you kinda did come off as a jerk...
Or for the right selling price, maybe one could convert it to a stick shift. Not sure how involved that is but worth considering. Stick or automatic, different strokes for different folks, live and let live and be a shifter or shiftless...... :0
Geez and I thought real 356 owners were biased. Now we are being purists for replicas...
Sorry guys. Reconsidering it, I suppose it was an uncool thing to say. At my age I forget sometimes that not everyone is still living like they're young and indestructible, being that I spend most of my time with people who think they're young and indestructible. I'll be more considerate of opinion related posts in the future.
Era - no big deal! Tough crowd! I'm sure you've read on this site some pretty harsh comments made about oddball cars listed under the 'Classified' threads or e-bay links.
Kinda like sitting on the back porch with a bunch of your buddies drinking beer and busting each other's balls!
Dont start with the word balls because that will turn into polishing knobs, what polish to use on your knob and you must be gentle when polishing your knob...
Do I have to like the steering wheel?
Hey Era,
Good on ya, man. We all step on our johnsons occassionally. It takes big juevos to cowboy up when we do.
Era:
What Jim said. Glad you're part of the mix.
"At my age I forget sometimes that not everyone is still living like they're young and indestructible" That's what got some of us driving auto-magics - were't quite as indestructible as we thought. Many instances were preceded by "watch this" and alcohol. Just watch old fart get out of a 550!
Era, can't tell you how many times I have come off like a dick on this site....
Stay tuned, it's bound to happen again in the near future...
"Mr. Horwinkle, MR. HORWINKLE" !
This is not your first time appearing before this court on the matter of using vocabulary of this nature ..... "Bailiff, wack his P-P "
Allan LOL LOL LOL!!! Beer out my friggin' nose.
Paddle shifting is cool. All the high end machines are using it now. I understand less beer is spilt - Only a rumor - Russ
Slap shifting in our BMW 328xi is a blast ~
I guess my wife has a high end machine in her 2013 Subaru Impreza Sport with paddle shifters.
No - A Subaru is not a high end machine. They all have brakes, some are better than others..
If you are as arthritic in the legs and back as I am. you would totally understand . But don't sell a automatic short it may be crude but its tougher than you might think and Mine did very well up on the mountain roads near Ashville. It can hold its own if pushed.
Someday, someone will start offering replica speedsters with a Subie engine and a Subie automatic transmission. That would be a great combination for someone who wants a replica, but doesn't want to, or can't shift gears for themselves.
SAS has been offering Subis with automatics for about 10 years now.
b61713, I was responding to your comment about "all the high-end machines" have paddle shifters. My wry sarcasm regarding my wife's car being a high-end machine because she has paddle shifters was a joke. I didn't think I had to explain it.
While you guys were all bickering here, it appears that there are at least 8 people interested in driving an auto Speedster (see auction) And we haven't even heard from Nolan yet.
Geez and I thought real 356 owners were biased. Now we are being purists for replicas...
Hahahaha .. truth
"SAS has been offering Subis with automatics for about 10 years now." SAS mid engine mounting is quite unique allowing the use of the Subbie trans without lots of expensive gear manf. Oh, a nice 6 speed std would be cool.
Way less cool than Mrs. Eastman's paddle-shifted Subaru Impreza is my wife's 2011 Subaru Outback with paddle shifters. It's a good sized 'station wagon'.
It also has some weird, "Continuosly Variable Transmission" that doesn't actually shift, although when in "manual" mode it seems to have pseudo-specific rev ranges for each paddle "step". If you launch hard from a stop and hit the paddle at just over 5 grand on the tach for each "gear" it gets you up over 80 very surprisingly fast and the tach moves in 'steps', just as you would expect. If you leave it in "auto" mode and launch it just as hard (gas pedal matted) it runs up to about 5,400 rpm and sits there, and the speedo rises VERY quickly past 80 - even faster than done manually but the tach doesn't 'step'....it just sits there. Takes a little getting used to (like about five minutes!)
So, to that comment about "A Subaru is not a high end machine." Maybe not in price, but they sure as hell give high end performance. Just try to catch a WRX driver. Over 600hp on pump gas in an all wheel drive, super handling package? Sounds pretty "high end" to me.
In modern cars there's no longer any real performance advantage in a manual over any one of the kinds of automatic tranny. The only issue is one of driver involvement. My daily driver (BMW 128i) has a reasonable 230 hp and even with the 6-speed auto is the fastest car I've ever owned. On weekend I find myself wishing it had a manual because of the fun factor, not performance. On weekdays sitting in traffic, I remember why the auto is so nice. The Speedster, on the other hand, is all about involvement, which for me means a stick. Your mileage may vary.
