I've been quiet for the last month and a half, somewhat deliberately, as I've tried to avoid thinking about my new speedster build 24-7. However, it's time to make that important decision about color. I definitely want a rich (but not navy), solid (not metallic) blue. Unfortunately, the two options i've narrowed it down to, i've yet to see in person, and those are Azure Blue and Bali Blue.

When I Google the colors, i come up with all types of blues.. often seeing the same pics under both searches. And of course it doesn't help that they vary so much (and often look the same) depending on lighting.

So a favor to ask: if any of you have a speedster or coupe in either of those two colors and can post some pictures that you think show off the color in its truest form, it'd be awesome

For reference, attached are three shots that got me going down this blue road in the first place.

Many thanks

I'm actually really happy you replied; i have that first photo saved on my phone as my reference for "Azure Blue" and it's great to see it in different light. Thank you.

I'm 90% sold on that color. Getting samples sprayed this week. Can't wait!

Thank you!

I've said this before and I will say it again...I think you have one of the prettiest cars I have seen.  That color with the tan is perfect.  Need more pics of that ridiculously clean motor!

+1 That is one beautiful machine! Can't go wrong with that color combo!

Devin, the paint code I used is a Porsche number, 5408. And it is a 1954 color. I thought it was '56. Most auto paint stores will be able mix it up in base/clear or single stage. I gave the number to Kirk and his painter got it right on.

Thanks for all the responses guys..

Troy, as you guys may remember, I wanted to go with the Suby engine and couldn't afford the IM, so i went with JPS. It's funny, i've saved more than a few pictures of your widebody as well. It confused the heck out of me though because it seems to change color so much in the different photos. Everything from a medium blue (http://i770.photobucket.com/al...ter/Picture20192.jpg) to black (http://i770.photobucket.com/al...ter/Picture20232.jpg).

Cartech IM, thanks for the suggestion; admittedly i'm looking for something lighter.

Will, also thanks for the suggestion; admittedly i was looking for something darker but now you've got me going down the lighter road. I like that it's a bold color, not baby blue. Looks a lot like an old Fender Strat i had, instead of the old light blue T-Birds.

Fpcopo, thanks for the info. I sent John the pics and asked him to reach out to Kirk for the code, which he got around the same time you posted with your code. Conveniently, you both came back with 5408. Apparently it's from Willhoit (http://www.willhoitautorestora...com/paintsamples.php)

Thanks again for all the help. I'll post pics of the paint samples when i get them next week.

(also, forgive me for not knowing all of your names.. I'm just going on handles right now, but i'll get there)

Hindsight!

Sadly, it wasn't a 1959 or anywhere close. It was around 1994 and if I recall, it was a Squier (by Fender). Apparently I've been a fan of the replica thing for a while now.

After some back and forth and forth -- literally, to and from North Hollywood, to and from paint stores, and to and from the paint booth -- i landed on two colors to choose between. I have the codes but i'm not sure where they're from... if anyone is interested i can find out.

Even though the lighter blue is exactly what i had in my head, i went with the darker for two reasons. First, i thought when you paint a whole car one of these colors, the lighter will be TOO light and the blue in the darker will come out more. Second, i thought it just looked like a richer color.

Despite finding several recipes for Azure Blue (including the code referenced above), we never found one that looked like what i expected.

So if this color doesn't have a name, i'm hereby naming it Laguna Blue, since i live in Laguna beach.

About 8-10 weeks to go... Sigh.

Ray:  That's my old Speedster.  Henry owned it at the time, and I bought it from him.  Used to be owned by that fellow in Ottawa - can't recall his name right now.

I had it repainted silver.

Devin:  Have you looked at "Adria Metallic Blue"??

I think it was a 1954 coupe color.

Here it is on a coupe I saw at a show today - fresh, flawless and perfect restoration and, IMVHO, a 100-point car worth way more than my house.   Absolutely stunning.

Gordon- And to think that after spending all that money making it look so nice he's probably now afraid to drive it!  Cars that don't get driven- SACRILEGE, I tell you! It does look good in that blue, though...

I don't know how much you know about Vancouver real estate, but I wish that was more than my house! And we live in a townhouse- a nice townhouse, but it's still a townhouse. An older house on a typical lot in the neighborhood (we're in Burnaby, just east of the actual city of Vancouver) is worth somewhere around $800,000.
