Kinda too much money for too little. especially for a car with so little weight and so small of a contact patch.

You HAVE to remember what you're dealing with here. There's SO very little weight in the front of these lil' suckers that if you crank the wheels to the right and pop the clutch, the car will actually plow forwards before breaking out into a donut.

The contact patch (coupled with the weight) is so small that we had to disconnect the line-lock on the drag Beetle. We kept breaking the lights at the start line ! !

You're WAY into useless over-kill here. Even rear discs are a little over the top. Honestly. You NEED heat in order to get the brakes to work correctly. Big drilled/vented rotors, four piston calipers and the like SOUND sweet, and you'll find them installed on a number of near race cars, but for street driving and highway runs, it's all just bragging rights.

Put that coin towards tuning the chassis correctly. A well balanced and tuned suspension/drivetrain is the place to spend the $$ on a Speedster, especially since most are shipped with the original VW components unaltered and in place. You need to be able to drive your way out of difficulty, not just bang the brakes and hope that they're finally hot enough to grab.

My opinion! And since Robin isn't home . . . it's TOTALLY correct. When she get's in, things may change drastically, depending on her mood. But for right now, I ABSOLUTELY right !

I've gotta disagree with team evil. My car had drums all round when i first put the skooby motor in. It was a real danger to drive, sometimes the car would go to the left and other times to the right. After a bit of spirited driving the brakes would go away completly. Not what you want. I then put big porsche 4 pot calipers with 310mm disk up front and golf disks on the rear. what a difference with the new brakes, I can modulate them beautifully if i have to i can lock up all the wheels. No amount of brake abuse has resulted in any fade whatso ever. I feel my big brake conversion was the best money i have spent on the car to date! Along with my brake upgrade i put 225/40/18 tyre all round on 7.5" rims. By doing my own "tophats" for the front disks i was able to squeeze all of this under the standard body. I had a slight rub on the lip at full lock so i raised the front of the car about 15mm (it was too low anyway)and it hardly ever touches now. I thought i might need to put a brake biase control in but the fronts lock up before the rears so it is not necessary.

Go for the big brakes especially if your motor is not stock.
