Badge Install

Has anyone come up with a nice way to mount the original "speedsterowners.com" badges? I went by the hardware store trying to find a backing plate but had no luck. Do I need to custom make one? Also, what size bolt will work? I tried a 6/32 but it was a bit too thick.

I spent about ten minutes at the hardware store dinking with bits and pieces, nuts, bolts and washers and bought some brass metal stock. I cut the stock to just under the badge's width, drilled out the holes and then, was home free...well, I made a second trip to the hardware store to get some longer little brass carriage bolts or stove bolts or whatever they were called... I also put a dab of silly-cone on the back of each badge and afixed a small, thin rubber washer so there wouldn't be any scratchin' or wigglin' shinnanigans between the badge and the grille... Then I reinstalled the grille into the decklid.

Paul: Thanks for the tips. The rubber gasket to prevent scratching and vibrating is a great idea.

Wolfgang: That is the badge I have.

Generally you need to use metric bolts..(ACE Hardware) and use large fender style washers. The bolt will need to be cut to the correct length and the rubber material isn't a bad idea.

My original SOC Badge is mounted on the shop peg board. I already did a massive near miss on that die young thing.

Justin, stop by.. I have a backing plate and brass hardware to mount one. Future ones can be made by taking these items to ACE/ True Value at Santa Fe and Danforth, NE corner. They always have great help back in the nuts/bolts section. Otherwise go to German Car Badges on the net and he sells a mounting kit for $2 last I looked.

The most important thing? Take off the luggage rack (2-3 minutes), then remove the engine grill, another quick chore. Then mount your badge exactly where you want it, without hassle. Make sure your screw length is not too long for the section of the VS f-glass under the grill (it varies.. I think the bottom part has the most depth). Reinstall the Grill and rack. When you re-install the luggage rack, make sure and use the lock washers and Loc-tite and just tighten the nuts enough to pull the rack taunt.

How about just doing the same badge, but instead have something like 2nd annual speedster meet or whatever to tie it more closely to the event. I think everyone attending would buy one and then you could sell off the extras during the year.

Before the NEW badges come out with the revised "politically Correct" slogan . . .

I left "politically correct" behind a long, long time ago. The "die young" is all shot to hell, I'll leave the "good looking corpse" to the mortuary, but I've got the "drive fast" more than covered.

Never was one to be politically correct, but must agree with Bruce that the wording needs to be changed....Not really interested in the current...sounds like something my kids would say....
