David, I'm with you. I Had Carey mount my driver's side mirror exactly where you did. I think it's the most attractive spot. In hind sight, I might have put them further forward so that I wouldn't have to look through the side curtains to see them. My car is still under construction and I'm debating adding the passenger side. Can you see yours through the windshield. I know that I've totally hijacked this post :)
If you buy the correct right-side mirror it works great. Otherwise, you will have two left mirrors and will have to monkey around with Gordon's fix in the Knowledge section. His fix works pretty good but I am pretty sure it was concieved before the mirror I posted the link for was avaialable. Pretty sure Jack Crosby also has this Stoddard mirror and will vouch for it. Just have it placed correclty on the fender. It has a good range for asjustment too.

Tom, wish I was there to hit the sticks with you in Scottsdale. Enjoy that good weather.

Thanks,

Marty
Hey Tom---yep--I did spring for the Stoddard mirror like Marty said.
I thought it wierd that two left side mirrors would be put on a brand new car as this is a safety factor. I too tried Gordon's fix and while it was an ok solution I just wanted a "real" right side mirrior.

It does adjust as much as is needed for a good look at thae semi bearing down on your tiny little Speedie.

Tom, are you buying cars or filming them? Ot both?

Did that legal bill ever arrive---several of the bretheren want to chip in.
Thanks for the great tip on the mirror. Originally, I didn't see the need for a passenger side one and just had the driver's side where I liked it (becauwse I was always going to drive with the top down)...then I got to thinking about driving with the top up on long drives in the summer as a sun shade and when caught in bad weather and had a Homer Simpson doh moment when I realized that I probably should have mounted them farther foward on the fender and installed the passenger side as well. The driver's side is already installed so Carey is going to check out if the passenger side will work in the same location. If so, I will definately go with this mirror. I know that no one probably gets everything right the first time, but I sure have tried. The help from folks on this board has been invaluable and saved (and alternatively cost) me thousands of dollars :) The mirror may be the only real mistake that I have made, so far. Hopefully, I'll know this week.

Tom--sounds like you are getting a Beck made? I didn't see a post telling about this--just hints like here. If so what engine will you go with. I imagine it will be different from your last replica engine ---or not?

I'm jealouss that you are in AZ----it was 6 degrees here this morning----but the high Wed will be almost 55!
don't forget the BJ format: If the gavel drops at say $100K, the seller pays an 8% commission, plus a $1000 to $5000 registration fee depending upon day & time of the auction. The buyer pays a 10% buyers premium, and must w/in 48 hrs pay up & arrange for shipment off of the premises at WestWorld. In summary, the buyer gets around $88K, the buyer pays about $113K.........and BJ earns $25K.......every two minutes !

Plus........a bidder's ticket is $500, plus a minimum cash (refundable if you don't buy anything) deposit of $9000........before you even walk into the bldg !

Woohoo.......I'm going to wallow. I save the buying for eBay, Autotrader, etc
Hello, Dale, Tom, and anyone else going to BJ

I'll be there all week in Dupont's booth just inside the front door. Stop by and swap some Speedy stories. THis is my third year and I can say for one I was let down by the quality of cars going across the block... I had always heard only the best of the best is sold at BJ... Not so there are a lot of pollished turds up there now days.

Anyhow lets sit down for a lunch or just chat. Yes I'm looking for a way to pass the time.....

look for this...........

Well did anyone see me up on stage tonight???? No well I'll be making more apperinces thru out the week, and then there will be my autograph signing one my return to California.....:) If any one wants a reason to see me up there on stage tune in between 7-9pm and you too can tell your friends "I know that guy" while your watching the auction..... Hey I have atleast another 13 minute of my fifteen minutes of fame coming....

As for the cars beging sold, WAY GREAT DEALS for the buyers in 80-95% of the sales today.....
They shut down most of the main tent tonight because it was coming apart. They lost some of the outer tents. The main tent covr and structure was waving up and down about 4 feet. Over at the Russo and Steel auction I guess part of the main tent end up on the 101 freeway closeing it down for awhile..... Maybe BJ tent wont make it thru the night with the tornado warning Arizona has now....
