Some of you were talking about this topic a few weeks ago. I was in a parking lot and next to me was a guy in a real 64 Porsche 356. He said that he never locks his car because if anyone wants to get in and steal it or something out of it they will do less damage. That sounded logical but I was reminded of that cut off switch discussed here and somehow it just made sense to install this switch so, at least, deter the thief a little more than nothing. Since I'm a new owner of a VS I have decided to install a switch. The one I decided to use comes from West Marine.com. It's called a Windlass Circuit On/Off Switch, SKU#598375, (500amp momentary and 100amp continuous) with a removable Handle/Key. I installed it on the "backrest wall" of the rear seat behind the passenger seat where it's easy to reach when I'm in the driver's seat. On the other side of that wall it's real close to the starter so I took the battery wire off the starter and moved over to this switch. Then got another short piece of 4 ga. wire (with soldered terminals of course) to go to the starter from the switch to complete the circuit as before but with this switch in line. Now I can cut off all power to the car, take the "key' with me (it's not very big) and leave to what I want. This switch is pretty compact and only requires a 7/8" hole to install.
Just thought I'd pass this on....more fodder for the pool ?....Aircooled
