hi everyone hoping someone can share there experience around a beam and torsional test more specifically a side torsional test. In australia if you build a speedster there is a good chance that you will need to go through one, and with most right hand kits that I have looked at they do not factor this in, given the body is all fibreglass.

Crickets? So is this for body lean or body twisting? The US build pan based Speedsters near all have a substantial 2x4" steel square tube frame so its pretty strong. The VW pan and center tunnel is still there too.

Our equivalent of a side impact test.
No one here, other than SAS, would even consider it because we would summarily FAIL!
The so-called frame on most of our speedster/roadster bodies is sitting on the sill so any side impact would probably ride up over the sill and use our bodies as an impact cushion so, no...... No one has done a side torsional/impact test.

Thanks guys, I can't imagine that I would need to go as far having to build something like that orange roll frame, hopefully the way the subframe and perhaps some extra bracing may suffice. better to get this all sorted out rather than get a kit sent all the way from the USA and find it won't pass.
P.s I did roll a 600hp ac cobra once and wished it had those hoops on it.
There are imported used CMC's down under. Are used cars of a certain vintage exempt? We all say it is like driving a 4 wheeled motorcycle. Several here (David S, MUSBJIM) have suffered hard "glancing" blows and are able to shake it off BUT a T-bone hit would not be good. The fiberglass shell seems like an egg shell - strong when intact for its thickness and weight. (OK Jim's is more than a glancing blow - both he and wife live right and bought another VS).
Thanks Wolfgang, yes cars I think that are pre 80's ( can't remember the exact year ) are. So imports from the US etc are exempt, if you build then you need to consider it. but with the prices they are fetching now it's worth building your own for a couple of reasons, firstly it would be RHD vs LHD, not that I have a problem with LHD but it's nice to be on the correct side haha, and you can also build to your own spec obviously, for a lot less. I should have bought one ages ago when they weren't so crazily priced but instead I got sidetracked by Motorcycles, VW kombis and Manx's haha.
We are going through the ADR process with our new 2019 Speedster chassis currently. Yes, side impact bars as well as additional A and B pilar bars are required. We actually did this in 2003/4 and got an ADR blanket approval number for the VW/Audi powered Spyder, and as far as I know we're the only P-car replica manufacturer to be successful in getting a proper ADR number. However we lost that approval number when we discontinued the VW/Audi drivetrain and went to Subaru...
I imagine we'll have a few month more of development and minor changes to make this happen agin, but we are working toward that end.
Hey chines, this is interesting, I had a look on your website and it says beck does a right hand drive ?? I did actually email the team earlier. I am just trying to get my head round the pricing spreadsheet and what it includes across the various packages. I'm working with an engineer at the moment to work out how the level of protection they require can be achieved. Is there someone I can talk with directly at beck re this ?? Cheers
@Aussie CHINES1, above, is Carey Hines. He and his Dad, Kevin, own "Special Edition", the makers of the Beck Speedster and Spyder. Very personable and knowledgeable guy and super to work with (both of them). Just so you know......
SAS cars have side bars if not mistaken is that correct?
Not sure if all of them do, but the later ones, for sure.
They are built upon a pretty substantial frame - way more robust than a pan-based speedster frame.
And exactly how many of them are out there and how long is the waiting list(I really mean Ponzi scheme) for SAS?

SAS doesn't even have cars, let alone side bars. Okay, maybe side bars, but still no cars.
