Yes and did you notice Rich that Bob and I are using colour instead of color...? We still have an Imperial history
SIDEBAR GRAMMAR POLICE:
Thanks, Rich. I'm always looking for good grammar sites. I guess being an ex-academic, spelling and such is an interest of mine.
Me, colour? Probably only in off-coloured jokes.
It was also not uncommon for the dealers to install a fuel gauge in the dash of the pre-A cars. I've seen Beck, Stork and VDO gauges all used. Im am uncertain if it was a factory option in '55, but one of our "Porsche Bibles" in the restoration shop shows VDO as "correct" for 1955.
The Fliker shots are very cool. Henry and his boys surely know how to do their trade. That's going to be the Sweetest ride. I've had the pleasure to take a ride in one of the IM Porsche-ized Speedsters w/ the 911 mill, and running gear. It is the epitome of the Speedster replica art, IMHO.
I believe I found this pict some time ago... it comes from the Porsche museum I believe a 51 aluminum coupe. Notice the front grill, kinda of neat ! Ray
Yes that car is the first Porsche ever raced at LeMans and the first to win...I believe the 1100 cc class in 1951. 1952 and 1953 cars lost the wheel covers.
@ Kelly
You had a question regarding that 1952 Porsche you saw at the end of the Seattle Concourse and I found this video of a guy talking/showing someone else's 1952 Cabriolet. He doesn't know too much about it but it has the same interior including the radio, little red-tipped antennae, and the square lights in the back. You can see the lights at 2:37 but just for a second and then for a few more seconds starting at about 2:48.
Thought you might like it.
Robert (or is it Bob??),
Yup, that would be it as a rag top. Exceedingly cool. And this one is simply gorgeous. Must be worth a mint.

You might enjoy this video of a 58 356A, this is an exact copy of a car that I use to own. Mind you mine (a 59) was not in as pristine a shape but if your a coupe lover this is by far the nicest coupe I have seen in a while. the interior is truly original as is near 99% of the car. Ray
As long as we're into oldies but goodies, here is one -- actually supposed to be 356 S/N001, ca. 1948. My book says: 1131 cc mid-mounted engine, 40 DIN HP at 4,000 RPM; wt 1330; body: tubular steel (inspired by or similar to the Maserati birdcage) and aluminum panels. Erwin Komenda did it while Dr. Porsche was cooling his heels in a French prison, says here. One and only one was made. Says it was sold back to the factory in 1953 by the original owner, so it must be in the museum. This is where it all started, I 'spose.

Robert works. I thought you might like it. Granted, had someone else not identified it I wouldn't have found that video for you.
From the Porsche Museum late last fall (from one of the members of our local club, who visited there):

. . . and just to bring it around full circle, it was all VW under the skin. Not only the first 356, but also the first replicar? My book says it was never officially raced but was entered into a local-roads race -- and won!
