Hello in/out there, I haven't been on here for sometime since I procured my Beck Speedster back in November of 2009. I picked this car up through a trade for my restored '74 BMW 2002tii. The kicker to the whole deal was that the Speedster didn't come with an engine (it was a deluxe roller package). The good news about that was that it gave me a chance to consider what I wanted to power this thing. After doing plenty of reading and frequenting ShopTalkForums, I came to the conclusion that a Type IV (4) was the way to go and quite quickly stumbled onto an engine (and transaxle) from a '72 914 1.7 liter. Initially I got all geared up about rebuilding this myself but came to my senses and as of January 2011 I am having a professional rebuild this and increasing the size to 1.9, dual Webers and a whole slew of new inards etc. The engine is starting to take shape and I will be delivering the Speedster to the shop this week sometime so all the details for installation can commence. I also recently received my Tangerine header system (attached). My hopes that by June 1st or so, I should be driving this after a long wait. It's been a good lesson in patience. I'm attaching a few photos here and if anyone is interested I have a thread within ShopTalk Forums, Type4rum area, "Type 4 into a Beck Speedster" is the topic. I have been documenting the process from the tear down (which I did do) and now the rebuild and eventually the install. Perhaps some of you here have seen it. I also have plenty of pix of the car (and many of my other cars) itself posted on my Facebook account.

I keep hearing you guys talk about Carlisle so much. I realize it's a big show and all, but what makes it so special? Yes, the Cali Conversion, which almost was a Raby DTM but my builder started the fabrication before I changed my mind. I think I'll be happy with this. All tinware will be powder coated. Attached is the car I traded for the Speedster. It was a beautiful restoration done NOT by me.

It's not just the show, but the nationwide gathering of like-minded crazies who have become friends over the years through these cars. We usually only spend 1 1/2 days or so at the show. The rest of the time we're cruising, eating, drinking, carousing, kart racing, and generally having fun. Plus, you get to swap ideas and tips with people, some of whom have built quite a few cars. It's one of the most fun vacations I take.
Yes, I plan to continue with posting within STF regarding the build and install. I'm expecting a successful completion and hopefully no pitfalls. The builder that i am using has an excellent reputation within the local Porsche group. He rebuilt the transmission in my '86 911 last year and I was very happy with the results. As a matter of fact, just last week he had another Beck in his shop for some minor work. I'll have to track that guy down because I don't think there's too many of us Speedster guys in the Wisconsin area.
