Just a quick question...

I have a 2004 Beck Speedster...It has the small bulbs located IN the headlight housings...They don't ever seem to turn on...

Also...The lower front parking lights next to the horn grills only work as directionals...They don't come on as parking lights like the rear beehives do.

Is this how all these cars are set up??? If not what should I check...As I mentioned, they work fine as directionals, But they do nothing when the running lights are turned on.

Do the small bulbs in the headlight housings have any purpose??

Just wondering....THANKS

Not sure how Beck intended them but VW designed those lights in head light housings to be running lights. Have you checked to see if bulbs are ok and wires are connected to them (and they are grounded)? On my CMC one center contact was pulled back and not touching and the other had a burned out bulb. You could swap out the turn signal lights for dual filament bases so they function as both turn and running lights.
Just spent some time looking at them closely...They're not wired at all. (the small bulbs in the headlight housings) Looks like they probably come as a unit with the small bulb already in the housing and it was just never wired. That's fine...I was more curious than anything.

As for the directionals....They are 1157 dual filament bulbs....They seem to be wired neatly and grounded, bulbs looked good. They work perfectly when you hit the directional lever. Maybe that's the way they set them up (just for directionals) Seems odd to have them there and not working as running lights too though.

This was a factory built car and maybe that's the way they set them up...Either way...GREAT CAR!! Really a quality piece....Even the tiny screws holding the lenses on had lock nuts on them. VERY, VERY HIGH attention to detail at Special Editions!!!

You guy's in Indy should be getting some calls from Rhode Island soon....I've had 5 people in the last week follow me to the store and ask very detailed questions about the car. I tell them to google Beck Speedster and follow the link to Specials Editions. Some VERY INTERESTED people here!!

Hell, I could use my car as a demo and set up a dealership out here for you guys!!
It was a factory built car.....Maybe those bulbs in the headlight housings ARE wired off the harness coming in from the side of the bucket. I expected a wire running to the bottom from outside of the bucket but there is none.

No front parking lights and no headlight housing lights....Doesn't matter if the headlight switch is halfway out or all the way....NO front parking lights regardless.

Fuse for front parking lights = GOOD

Could it be the Headlight switch????? But WHY would the REAR parking lights work if it was the headlight switch???

Anyone????
It's much simpler. Those sockets are very prone to corrosion, and are also not very sound mechanically (repro headlight buckets - probably from China). Right now mine aren't working either. Every once in a while I have to take out the headlight, clean the contacts, and bend that tabs to make sure that they contact the bulb firmly. I just haven't wanted to disassemble the headlight to do it as it's quite a PITA to get back together.
FDJake,
It is the wiring of your bulbs, not a switch or fuse.
The little bulbs in the headlights were prone to shake loose and dead short the running lights... maybe someone had this problem and pulled the wires off the socket? Hard to say. Anyway, now we seal the base with RTV. Makes it as little harder to change bulbs, but I haven't had a problem with them since.
Front beehives are wired as turn only but they use an 1157 so they can easily be wired as running/turn. The small black wire in the headlight bucket is 12v for running lights ad would be easy to splice and put one end to the parking bulb and drop the other end through the bucket drain hole (or make a new hole near it) for the dim element on the front beehive light.
