Over the past 3 1/2 years of owning this car I have gone through 3 or 4 bee hive lenses due to melting. It would occur when in a traffic situation when I had to stand on the brakes for a long period of time. I also had a pair melt when getting an alignment. At $30 each it was getting annoying.
The problem is the lens sits more or less right up against the glass bulb. with the brake lights on at 21 watt the heat generated is too much for the plastic lens.
I purchased LED's to try. They dont fit. Last week I ordered a miniature "rod light bulb" to try out. installed last night, dont think ill have a lens melting problem anymore. Thought I would share with everyone.

Thought id pass this along. Ive done a lot of research over the years and never saw mention of a solution. The LED's they are making specific for bee hives are $199 a piece.
