I have converted to the beehive tail lights, but am concerned about melting these expensive lenses with the 1157 bulbs. I have searched far and wide for a lower (sub 20W) alternative, but have not found any. I was wondering what some of you guys with the beehives are using for bulbs.

As an alternative, would it be possible to use a resistor(?) to lower the supply voltage to the higher output side of the bulb and thus drop the output wattage/heat?

Thanks, Chuck

Thanks Bob. The LEDs from superbrightleds.com arrived and they are great. They are shorter than the Auto Zone LEDs that I had purchased. The entire lens is illuminated, which is what I was looking for. I opted for the wide angle red 24 LED bulb with 18 forward LEDs and 6 rearward LEDs. The output is comparable to the 1157, but no heat to speak of. The photo shows the tail lights illuminated (not the flasher or brake). Thanks again for the tip Bob.
