I have seen a couple of shifters (I think I saw one on a VS) that have a double bend in them. However, I have not been able to find one at any of the usual sources (CIP, BFY).

I have seen gear shift knobs to supposedly fit on 10mm and even 7mm diameter shifters, but the on;y ones I can find are all 12mm.

Anybody know where to get one of these shifters?

Cheers,

Jim

Jim,

Are you talking about the slender shifters with the smallish ivory (gray or black) door knob shaped knob on them?

If you are, those are stock Beetle shifters from any car '67 or earlier. The larger knobs were on the early '67 and down buses.

Check TheSamba, they're all over the place for practically nothing. As Alan mentioned ___you can fit them to a later car by notching the cup on the end of the shift rod to accept the locator pin at the end of the shifter, protruding from the ball end
Greg, it works and at one time, was the hot set up for a real short throw shifter. The mechanical leverage is different to compensate for the extra height of the bus shifer, but it will fit in a bug. I think you might have to add some washers between the tunnel and shift plate, sort of like the spacer you'll find in the short throw kits now in the aftermarket.
