During the last four years I have tried to get a 356A Porsche Speedster built by Speciality Auto-Works It has been a disaster to say the least! The company took my money, never even started the car after two years, and still has a large sum of money they have not returned to me! PLEASE INFORM PEOPLE TO NOT PUT A DOWN PAYMENT WITH THIS COMPANY. They will take your money and give you all kinds of excuses as to why production has not started. I wanted one of these cars so bad and trusted the wrong company. It has been over 4 years and I still do not have my money or the car!!

This has been discussed many times before...click the above link to read the discussion just last month. Best of luck to you Roger!
Welcome to the site, Roger. If you spend a little time looking around here you'll notice this topic has been discussed over the years. It's unfortunate you didn't find this site prior to making a financial commitment to SAS.
The word has been spread but there will always be a few who fall through the cracks and end up in the queue.
All prospective buyers need to check Knoxville BBB before signing a check. Looks like one buyer recently got a $10k refund BUT only after someone else bought his position in line for a car. Initial buyer has already waited 2 years (with no progress started on car) for a contract build of 14-18 months. Surprised there are only 2 complaints filed at BBB in last 3 years - but suspect if you file you scare off the next potential customer!

Hi Roger,
Not sure if that name is your given name or your screen name. You can check the known queue at the SAS website (www.sasowners.freeforums.org), on page 6 under the heading: The Queue. Unfortunately, there are 19 buyers on the list, and "Roger" is not among them. It's not surprising that there will be buyers on the list who are only known to SAS, and they aren't talking.
Don't feel bad if you've only been waiting for four years. The two senior members on the list paid their first deposits in 2007, and are now in their eighth year of waiting! It's getting tougher for those on the list to accept things as they are. Even selling a spot to another buyer becomes problematic if the new buyer knows he will have to wait for 5 or 6 additional years to finally get a car. A 2011 position in the queue such as yours means you are about 1/2 way on the list, or an additional wait of 4 more years. Intervention by the Attorney General's Office in Tennessee seems inevitable. Best of luck.
Has anyone actually stopped by the shop to see if any work is going on?
Now THAT would be enlightening, since Lawing has exactly zero incentive (after bankruptcy court conclusion) to do any work on these cars at all, but it certainly would be interesting to hear if he is working on anything at all. I certainly wouldn't expect anything happening on the pre-bankruptcy 356 replica list, but it would be interesting to see if he is working on other stuff, instead.......
And Jim: Interesting to see your coupe as the banner photo on the SAS website.
Hi Gordon,
The last car completed gets the "banner" spot. This is not an association I am proud of. With the current lack of production, my car may be the permanent banner, eh? My car was completed in Aug, 2013. Since that time, not one car has been delivered. One of the SOC members keeps telling other SAS list members of all the progress SAS is making with additional cars, but no one else has seen the evidence. The phantom cars always seem to be in other locations: at paint, at the frame builders, etc.
How does one "sell their spot" without fudging a little on the facts. Seems to me they would be about as ethical SAS.
