Sounds like a flame going out, carbs to rich/fuel pressure to high? Ideas?

First question is, does this POOF occur after the engine has stopped rotating for a fraction of a second or longer???? This would point to unburned gas getting to a cylinder that has something in it (spark plug thread, raised valve seat edge, etc.) that is hot enough to set off the charge.... Its the reason VW put that fuel shut off solenoid on the factory Solexs...
Yes. If I let idle it for a couple of seconds before shutting down it's not noticed. But if I roll in and shut it off right away I've heard it 3 different times. Very concerned!
How can I best diagnose this and fix it. Almost afraid to drive it...
First things first.... Check your timing..... If you are running 30 / 32 deg., turn it down to 27 / 28 and try it..... Sometimes its just that simple..... Something inside is getting hot, and idling allows it to cool down some what... The thing to shoot at is to keep it from getting that hot to begin with.... Also check your spark plugs heat range and maybe go a step colder....
