I turned 60 last month, and decided it was time to own another small roadster (my last one being a 66 MGB over 30 years ago.)  And since that time, I've become a Porsche fan, so this little beauty really fit the bill.

I found this one on Hemming's auction site, and it's a 2009 Thunder Ranch.  Needless to say, the seller committed several omissions, so it's been a process getting it back into driving shape.  I wasn't expecting this, but I've really had fun in doing so.  And, in the few times I've queried folks on here, everyone has been extremely helpful -- thanks for that, y'all.

When purchased, it had Panamericana livery applied, which I promptly removed.  I'm going to install more traditional white ball/black number decals, as the mustard yellow stuff wasn't doing it for me.    I also removed the sun-faded badges, and installed new ones in the proper locations, including adding the "Spyder" script on both sides that were not installed to begin with.

The list of completed tasks is long, and it seems that the list that's left is even longer.  Next up on the high priority list is remedying the idle not staying steady after adjustment, and then repairing the transmission.  My Porsche mechanic adjusted the shifter and linkage, and while he made it better, it's still a pot of molasses to shift and doesn't go into neutral, even after I've parked it and moved the shifter back and forth, clearly being "neutral."  My research tells me the next things to look at for this are the clutch and the transmission itself.

Thanks for the welcome, y'all -- I'm thrilled to be here.

Congratulations, John. And Happy Birthday!

Feel free to ask us in the Spyder section for help. I built one of these and am well-familiar with some of the Thunder Ranch quirks.

I attached a PDF detailing the shifter installation and adjustment procedures. Shouldn't feet too mushy when it's done. Make sure all the mounting bolts are tight, especially on the transmission bracket. Then put the trans in neutral and adjust it so the stick is straight up. A lot of people find that the cables stretch a bit after initial install & they have to dial it in again soon after. But then it's usually good.

@edsnova — Thank you, Sir!

Ed, I discovered your Spyder build thread last week, and I’ve been hooked as if I’m binge-watching a compelling Netflix mini series! I’m learning a lot reading your commentary on that thing — thanks for that.

Thank you also for the attached instructions, and in fact those are the exact documents I gave my Porsche mechanic last week.  He improved it a bit, but it’s still not right.  I’m going to take a run at it with these instructions, but now I’m thinking it’s clutch related.  I’ll let the group here know when I finally get it.

Ed, I won’t be shy >> count on me asking questions, and I hope I don’t wear y’all out in doing so.  😉
