Black Color Code

I am going to paint this thing black. I am thinking about either going with the traditional black color or maybe a more modern black. On the black color what do you guys recommend? Do you guys have metallic in yours? I used to do detail work so it is not a problem keeping it up because nothing beats black when its done right.

I had a metallic/pearl black Honda delSol. I hated the color. Black should be dark black only IMO with no fanciness stirred in. Just an opinion.

Long ago, in a Galaxy far, far away, I had a model "A" pickup that I used for a parts truck/occasional driver. When I went to paint it (it was originally Black) I found that I didn't have enough "Diamond black" to cover the whole thing, so I "borrowed" a gallon or so of a friend's left-over Burgundy Metallic from a Buick Wildcat he had recently painted. Just dumped the two together and mixed them up with a drill-based stirrer.

The effect was AWESOME! Most of the time it looked normally black. But...When the sun (or mercury-vapor parking lot lamps) hit it just right, the black would glow in a reddish aura. Not in-your-face, but gorgeous, nonetheless.

I have done 4 speedsters, two T Buckets and a dune buggy all in GM Onyx black. Deep gloss non metallic ~

I am trestoring a 1987 BMW R-80 and had the painted parts redone with German Glasurit paint and it is sensational. I learned dfrom the shop that there are many, many blacks so do you homework and get one you will like. Alans choice looks like a great black.

PPG Black is pure black. There are no tones of red, yellow, etc., in it. It's as black as a landlord's heart. If you are going with a two-stage paint, the PPG clear is also nearly as clear as water. Other clears have a yellow or brown cast to them.

One significant advantage to this color is that there is no metallic and no toner. It is ALWAYS the same color which makes touch-ups a breeze.
