Took the plunge of purchasing Koni's 80-1787 for my ball joint 2013 VS, from Kirk, after reading through different threads on the various types of shocks you folks have tried or are using. Koni is the top of the list for ride and performance with its adjustable oil damping.

My question is looking over the pictorial instructions, they are slightly vague. I would like input from users to make sure I do the bench adjustment phase correctly the first time and not have to remove the shocks for a re-adjustment too many times.

It appears the thick rubberized split bushing and thin white ring must be removed in order to start the adjustments. Once adjusted, they are then replaced and shock is ready to be installed.

I would appreciate more details from the user folks if this seems correct- and or any lessons learned trick to share.

Thank you very much,

Michael

You shouldn't have to totally remove the shocks, but it sure makes it easier.

I have the older oil-only version, so maybe a different procedure, but I'll try to help.

My shocks are the ones that use the old shock extension bolt/rubber bumper/plastic dust shield. Remove all that, then compress the shock all the way, past it's normal travel, then turn it all the way counterclockwise(full soft) until it stops. Then adjust from there. I've never had to adjust them, since the front of my car is so light. Full soft(or is it slow on rebound?) is how I run them.

Michael, correct, once adjusted, re-assemble. I got my NOS Konis for free(lucky right?) and repainted them, they were all scratched up. There wasn't any hardware with the shocks.

Then I bought this hardware from cip1.com, but I can't find the dust covers anymore:

I'm guessing you could use old stock dust covers, if you can find good ones.
