I like the way your engine compartment looks. I almost bought one of those shrouds for my car. What are the orange breather lines to your air cleaners coming from? And what's that gizmo in the top right corner with the hoses coming off of it?
Just 'cuz I'm nosey and curious, what stuff did you do to it, and what came from Boulder? I'm interested in all kinds of Q&A when people start making modifications I might be able to use, and I'm at that point with the Hoopty where I can put cool ideas into play.
Next silly question; I bought one of those Talbot-looking mirrors like you have on your driver's door. How far back from the leading edge of the door is it? (That'll save me some R&D, and I hate messing with body stuff for more than five minutes at a time.)
Dear Friends...........

Here are the headlines for my BSC experience. Then I will tell you
of the solution

Ordered 9/5/05
delivered 12/6/05

Problems:
Chipped bonnet latch, chipped door handles, fog lamps installed off center, fog lamp not working, horn button unwired & non functional, passenger door alignment off, front bonnet interior latch installed upside down, gas pedal broke as result of throttle cable being routed through two 90 degree "S" turns, side curtain scratched (witnessed Eric Shimp do this), camber, caster & toe extremely out of alignment, soiled soft top, badges placed incorrectly, passenger grab handle placed incorrectly, kph speedo rather than mph, all brake lines improperly installed, paper heater hoses installed immmediatly next to manifold, defroster heater hoses missing, two hubcaps scratched, transmission ratios wrong for engine, and much more I am too sick to remember

Events:

12/10/05: first engine fire, Eric Shimp driving
3/31/05: transmission failure
4/16/05: second engine fire, I was driving

Total mileage driven: 500
Total trips (of any distance) 15
Trips where I did not get to where I was going: 5
Trips to shop on flat bed: 3

Solution:

Special Edition now has the car & will repair and restore to 100 percent of what a Beck Speedster should be.

Shimp & Richards should not be in the car business of any kind

Carey is just about finished with my build. Thanks to the SOC my unease with BSC's unresponsiveness to my inquiries was validated with threads like this and I ordered directly from Special Edition. My Speedy looks beee-utiful in the photos Carey has e-mailed, and, as many of you can relate, I'm like a little kid on Christmas eve waiting for it. Stories like this make me shudder when I think of what I might have gone through had I ordered from BSC.
Tom, I'm getting a Beck in a couple of weeks (the Carlisle build car), myself. I live in Charleston, SC, but make frequent trips to Asheville to visit my inlaws. The two of us should get together at some point for some mountain driving. We could call John Hallstrand, Bob Bingham, and a couple of others in the area and make a gathering of it.

I know Carey will straighten things out as he really cares about these cars and understands the need for maintaining his company's reputation.
Reg, I visited the Boulder shop in person when I began shopping for my Speedster. They talk a good game but the shop is a mess and they seem more interested in hot rodding than in full 356/spyder service. I felt too much hustle and no confidence. If you do business with them I highly recommend getting EVERYTHING detailed in writing. Check with Carey Hines. He will do you proper.
