Jim (and Jim):

Desi installs the clear film front covers. You can also get fitted sheets for the tops of the doors to protect from the side window gaskets.

Both 3M and BASF make 6mil to 10 mil material used for front bras. Mine is 8mil from BASF but I think they discontinued that thickness, going to the other two.

This is NOT for a DIY at home. It takes patience (something, sadly, somewhat lacking in Vince) and a good bit of experience installing it to learn the "tricks" of getting it right, since the entire front end of a Speedster is a bunch of combination, compound curves.

If you're in Florida, try asking at a local Lexus, Infinity or Acura dealer to find out who they use (they may tell you that someone in their shop applies the stuff, but I really doubt it - they contract this stuff out to guys like Desi). Don't have a dealership do it - find out who they use and contact them direct. If the service desk can't help you, wander around and ask the guys in the final prep department. I did that at a Mercedes dealership and they even gave me the guy's card.

Expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $600 for the job, and it should take about 2-2.5 hours to complete. A bit faster if you remove all of the lights, horn grills, badges and so forth first (I left the Porsche emblem fastened to the hood and he worked around it).

Mine has been on there for just ten years, now, and is usually invisible although I'm beginning to think it's starting to yellow if looked at in the proper light. I've taken a bunch of stone/debris hits without any indication of damage and one stone hit (about the size of a big wallnut) which punctured the vinyl but left no ding on the body surface. None. I was amazed.

So that's it. It looks like this (yes, it's really on there):

Yeah, really!

My car hauler trailer has the deck at about 18" off the road, putting the nose of the car at about 3 feet up. Almost a perfect working height. If we had TWO trailers, we could prep one car while the other one was getting filmed. Maybe get in 4-6 Cars per day, if they were prepped and ready to go when you (Desi) were. Maybe even throw in a few, free egg-sammiches and/or some Singapore noodles from the Chinese place or spaetzel from the Pennsylvania Dutch place.

And MAYBE, if we offered it as a demo (remember when we built Lane's car?) the Carlisle folks would let us do them under cover or inside a pavilion building.

Something to think about......
