I was trying to find out how the spare is held in place in the trunk. Who sells a bracket to hold it in place.

I got mine from a salvage yard from the same car I got the spare wheel from - late 90's Cadillac. Got the tie-down bolt, wheel hold-down spinner (big nut with a hand-hold spinner on it) cover for over the tire, cover hold-down spinner and the spare tire/wheel, AND the guy threw in a scissor-jack from a Ford Windstar, all for $25 bucks.
Someone had a really cool setup with a tupperware thing in the middle but I cant find it after searching.
That was from Gordo, the previous poster......
ahhhhhh....you must be looking for the "masked Picnic-er". That spares carrier is called a Rubber Maid Picnic Condiment Carrier. It looks like this:
Thanks for posting those pics again Gordon; that's such an excellent way to organize the small spares needed for piece of mind with these things! And I'm going to write that down- Rubbermaid Picnic Condiment Carrier...
Yeah, and if you have a 16" wheel, it drops right into the wheel center if the spare is mounted inverted in the trunk.
Anyone remember the early VW tool kits? There are reproductions - originals are ubber expensive.
Very cool, where can you purchase?
EMPI makes the round metal one which retails for $149 --- $139 at CIP1 but out of stock. Original ones with all the OEM tools bring $600 on ebay.
I have the Empi one but don't use it.
I don't have a spare! Thats where my batteries at!
