You guys know the story of the Princess and the electrons?
No?
Well, lemme just tell you. My charming new bride, who isn't even a little bit afraid of a five-day stint in the cold and windy Rockefeller Center Plaza, just got done with her work as the lead electrician on the 2008 Tree Lighting there.
She says she was a small cog in a big machine, but she was on the radio an awful lot, providing directions and giving consent for movement requests and process steps. Very impressive.
I was a bump on a log for three of those days, watching as she ran her crew and checked in on every little thing every five minutes. It was chilly, but she trooped around in her little hat and coat, and busted her ass for the national television audience.
I'm in awe of the mad electrical skills. If it plugged in and turned on, she was responsible for it. Check out the pictures, and imagine the little Rock Center electrical meter zinging away ...
The bands and all were pretty neat, but I only really paid attention to what she was doing.
Meanwhile, Bryant Park, a few blocks away, was the site of another tree lighting ceremony. Five, Four, Three, Two, One ... and no lights. Their electrician -- the one at the remote switch -- was apparently off on a dinner break. No lights for them.
Oops!
But Teresa and the Rock Center tree were right on time.

Nah, Vince.
But it seemed like maybe we could use a little GOOD news here. Loads of Grinching, but no real wrenching. I thought a little clip of how a wench with a wrench could winch up the Grinch might make for some entertaining reading.

What Cory said - YOW ZERR! (what DID he say?)
Anyone who's met the lady, knows the quality of her character.....She is a KEEPER of the first degree......
Gag me with a spoon....I'm thinking any woman who would put up with some of you, is a keeper...Now there is no denying that Cory is a "special Needs" kinda guy, but there are more than a few of you on the wrong coast who fit into that catagory....
If you need a spoon, Vince, we're there for you, brother!
I dunno, but the old saying "Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black" comes to mind for some reason.

Cory,
One bit of advice:
Don't ever piss Teresa off.
But, if you do, don't touch anything electrical...

A very cool thing to be a part of. Never been to New york, I hear this is a good time to go and check it out. I might get up that way during my week off.
Looks Great, and congrats on the marriage!

I found the Bryant Park clip. Wait for it to buffer, then go to 4:45 on the timeline. You'll have to copy and paste, then add the "at" symbol back in.
Heh, heh. ...

Yup, that WAS bad.....
I had to call Teresa for some info this morning and I think I got her up and out of bed at 10:30am or so (and for that I'm truly sorry....Honest!)
Seems she has been working 16-20 hour days for the past week (although it probably wouldn't have taken as long each day if Cory wasn't hanging around) and had today off (Saturday) and back to work tomorrow.
At first I thought I was lucky to have been in Management in my career, but then I remembered my 70-80 hour weeks as "normal" and figured we were about equal. But, then....I worked 70 hour weeks and got paid for 40 (boy, was I a chump) whereas I hope she's getting fair union wages for what she does.....
Anyway, What a great show at the Rock!!!!!!!!

What a trip, huh?
She's got a Stagehands card from Charleston, and that helps her get work where she runs the crews, but her work in NYC is as an independent contractor. Usually, she works longer hours than what she shows on the invoice, but she's doing the CAD and VectorWorks power drawings for the jobs and ordering the equipment and trucks from supply houses in the City and New Jersey.
It's management, just a different flavor. Her hours would KILL me.
