Hello All,

Well, I actually did it! I bought a 2002 Vintage Spyder week-end before last and drove it from Santa Cruz to LA. It was one of life's perfect days. However, I noticed recently that the brake lights are not working. The tailights work, the blinker lights work, but when you put on the brakes nothing happens. The fuses are all good. I understand the switch behind the brakes might be bad, but it seems improbable as there's only 1400 miles on the car. Also, it appears there's only one bulb in the light fixture.

Does anyone have any other ideas for me to eliminate possibilties without having to put the car up in the air? And, if you've read this far, can you recommend a good mechanic in Los Angeles? I live in Los Feliz.

Thanks a million,

Craig

it is a simple system...VW basically. If I recall correctly, I think you will find a dual element bulb in there. Three wires into each light assy - turn/taillight will be one, brakes will be two and ground will be the third. If your brakes lights are not working, but the others are, then you trace the brake line back throught the brake switch on the Master Cylinder and then back to the fuse block. The switches are usually the culprit.

If I don't remember correctly, then please forgive me.

There are many nice sites on teh web to help you -

www.type2.com

www.nls.net/mp/volks/

for example.
