I am going to see if it's a fuse. Now, if it is, do I get fuses for a 1957 Speedster? I'd like to have some extra fuses handy anyway.

You need VW fuses available at any auto-parts store. Well most are anyway. Get a pack and leave them in the car. Fibreglass cars have bad grounds and replacing and/or checking fuses is quite common. Get the 4-8-16A fuses.

John; if the fuses check out alright also check the connection to the sending units at the master cylinder in the front and last but not least, take the tailight lenses off and make sure the bulbs are well seated in their sockets. Last week I had a problem with my left turn signal not blinking; it turned out to be a loose bulb in the tailight.

Thanks Ricardo. I replaced a fuse today and got the brake lights working, plus I bought some extras to have around. Also, thanks for reminding me to check my turn signal lights.
