A new 2012 VS - I'd take it back for sure (especially if within an hour or so). Electrical trouble shooting on plastic cars takes a lot of time. It can be as simple as a loose ground (there is one for each device since unlike normal steel cars the body does not ground them) or a fuse --- to multiple corroded wires. I like soldering and shrink wrapping auto/boat wires. The crimp and plastic collar just seems to invite corrosion. You'd need a cheap Volt/Ohm meter at least to start. Does it still have the old antique ceramic VW fuses? If so wiggle them first.

Take it back, Kirk gives great service....How dirty are you?????
TA, we are suppose to have a run this Saturday to the Rudder room, are you busy..
predictable vinny response. =P
i am not looking forward to driving on the freeway to long beach with no brake lights which is why i asked if i might be able to wiggle something around myself in order to fix it.
what's the rudder room? i could probably come out on saturday. what time?
Annaliese - checkout the forum 'Speedster Events' and the Rudder Room thread. There's a few photos and links for additional information. It's a cool run up the coast through Malibu to the Museum in Oxnard (French art-deco design and automobiles) then on to lunch on the beach at the Rudder Room (a beer joint in Channel Islands marina).
Hope you can join us for a meet & greet and fun day of cruising in a Speedster caravan!
Peace-Out!
Both brake and tail lights out - suspect both on same fuse. So might check and replace fuse using same size. If it blows again then there is short somewhere that needs to be addressed. Have Kirk add a 3rd grill mounted brake light for extra safety. P.S. get a fire extinguisher if you don't already carry one.
TA,
We meet at the Topanga Ranch Motel on Pacific Coast Hiway (just past Topanga Canyon Blvd) around 10:00 then head north thru Oxnard to the Mullin musium
then on to the Rudder room for lunch, the whole trip is done by early afternoon.
I was suppose to bring my latest acquisition (red truck) but it will be in the shop, so I am bringing my tub, you will get to meet a few of us who do cruises regularly...
Vinny...wiggle something around...? Jumponit ! Like now , dood !
DEFINITELY CHECK THE FUSES
kirk sent a flat bed to pick gretchen up. =) no wiggling, vinny. sorry to disappoint.

Apology excepted, but of course I'm disappointed....
I'm sure Kirk will have the problem fixed before the weekend....
How many dealers will go through hoops like that....I'm thinking not many...
I continue to be impressed with Vintage Speedsters...no bullshit, just let's correct the problem. I love it when people stand behind their products!!!
he told me it would take one day so i am hoping to have the car back here by tomorrow afternoon.
and well-- it is nice that they're fixing it and that they came to pick it up but any new car under warranty would be treated the same way by any reputable dealer. when i bought my lexus in valencia they brought it down to the place i happened to be hanging at at that moment in los angeles and had me finish the paperwork and whatnot there. it's not THAT unusual for people to provide good customer service when you're dropping large amounts of cash.
I would say you are right. However, a dealer will warrant a car because they can charge-back to the manufacturer and make a profit. In the case of VS, and other manufacturers, the cost comes directly out of their pocket.
I once had a problem with a battery and eventually the alternator on a Vintage Speedster I owned. It was outside of warranty by more than a year. My battery was dead at a drive we had in Paso Robles. Kirk from Vintage was there, and heard about it through someone else. He went to the local Kragen's Auto Parts and bought a new battery, then delivered it to my hotel room and installed it.
Just to be fair, I've known Kirk for many years as a personal friend, but my experience is in no way an anomaly. It's been reported on many times, that Vintage Speedsters goes far beyond their written warranty.
Actually, as speedster enthusiasts we are in very good company, because the manufacturers that have caused problems have gone out of business. The remaining companies have a record taking care of their customers.
