I just replaced my master cylinder which puked all over my pan and new carpets.  Nice freakin' mess!  When I removed the old one, I foolishly cut off the rubber hoses that connected to the reservoir up in the frunk.

I went to my local parts place and asked if they had this braided covered rubber hose to replace these 2 short pieces and asked if it would be ok with brake fluid going through it.  No real pressure going through it just something that would not be dissolved by the fluid.  All I got was a puzzled look.

So the question is : Can I use a piece of quality fuel line of the proper size and be ok as far as the corrosive properties brake fluid go?  Do I need to find another source?

Thanks in advance.

I've been using plain old 1/4" Vinyl hose on mine for 20 years with no problem.  Little itty bitty hose clamps on each end - that's it.  If it ever had any bubbles, you could see 'em.

LOTS of water for cleanup.  Still sucks, tho.....

AL... You want VW silicone brake hose it is light blue in color, to get the hose over the nipples use that slimy slicker than snot tire shine stuff in a bottle it slides right over, same for barbed fuel fittings but once the hose is on there is no getting it off w/o cutting it.  BTW best to use fuel injection hose clamps ( full band w/ machine screw and nut not worm gear hose clamps) for extra security....I feel for your fluid loss , I just had almost a gallon gas dump from a badly fitted AN fitting that blew off at the tank with no way to stop the flow... a WalMart plastic storage tub to the rescue ...wasn't perty~

Brake fluid will dry our standard rubber fuel hose in a year or two and make it brittle.  As mentioned above, you want the blue braided brake fluid specific hose, 7mm for a stock VW reservoir.  It used to be black, and sometimes you can still find it in black, but most of it is blue today.  It is silicone based, which is why Gordon's suggestion has probably held up...

Thanks guys.  I knew there was a reason that the hose was a different color braid.  Now I just have to find some.  Not that easy on the sandbar. The 5/16" fuel line I used was a tad loose so I had to use clamps and the one I took off had to be cut.

I was in a hurry to get the damn thing off the jack stands and start driving!

Guess I'll hold my horses and find the right stuff.  I'm getting a little edgy.
