Yes you can add anti rattle springs.  There was a recent post where I put the part number and brand.  

I couldn't find the thread, but I am a computer idiot also so that doesn't mean anything.

The clips you want are Centric brand, part number 11733016

The part shown above is what I installed to solve my brake pad rattling, and they did solve the problem.  I found it a bit awkward to get them in place.  A small amount of foul language seemed to help.

If I remember correctly, position the outer end and center loop mostly in place, then grab the loop at the inner end using it as a handle and persuade everything to kind of snap in place.  I was able to do it without disassembling anything.  While I installed the upper and lower clips on the driver’s side, I only installed the upper clip on the passenger side.  It seems only one is required to solve the rattling, so you might try one one each side first, and save your other two from the set as spares.

The size of the tabs/ears on the pads changes all the time, very inconsistent.  If you're lucky the clips will just snap on.  Sometimes you can get 2, sometimes only 1 (but 1 will usually do the trick).  Sometimes you have to pull the pad and grind/file the ears to make enough room for the clips.

Noted. In my searches, I’ve found pads with a small relief at the tip, and some without. Mine have that relief, which seems designed to allow a slot for the spring to slip into  

im thinking one at the top on each side might be enough, given the small amount of rocking observed.

Knocking noise is gone!  Thanks for all your help. This has been bugging me since I got the car.

added all four spring clips up front
