Does anyone know a source for the disk brake pads that fit Girling Calipers. These were available on some Ghias and Super Beetles.

The calipers are a little smaller than the ATE and the pads have rounded ends with a single metal tab with a hole in it. The friction material is solid, no chanel cut through it, and they are held in the caliper with a spring metal plate and a "U" shaped fastener with mildly pointed ends, rather than a single or two separate pins.

I like these calipers, I'm familiar with Girling Brakes from my British cars, but I can't seem to find the pads anywhere. Even Aircooled.net hasn't got a listing/part number for them.

Any help at all would be great. A source, a new set set for sale, a USED set for sale, even an idea as to the VW application that they were used on might point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much,

TC

Oh, MY!

I hope that it doesn't come to that. I suspect that if nothing turns up, I'll just buy the more common ATE calipers and join the crowd.

Strange though, EVERY Ghia that I've ever owned had Girling calipers on it and now they don't exist!?

Even Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration doesn't list a part number for caliper OR pad!?!

Do I smell cigarette smoke . . . where's Rod Serling . . . ?
I FOUND SOME!!

Jason, at Karmann Ghia Parts and Resto checked the shelves for parts not listed on their website and scored me some. I bought eight sets and some rebuild kits as well.

Just occurred to me that I probably could have picked up a pair of ATE calipers for the same price as all the stuff that I bought for the odd ones that I have . . . crap!

Gotta think things through a little better from now on . . . crap!!
