my VS only has 185 miles on it now---during that time I have heard an intermittant loud metal on metal sound while braking from the rr disc brake--not a squeal--just a short burst of loud sound--my guess is maybe the brake pad has come partially loose from the backing if that's possible-- anybody had a similar problem

The best thing to do is pull the pads and take a look; it could also be a small pebble getting stuck in there.
and pull the pads soon b4 you gouge the heck out of a rotor.
I checked them and they look perfect--that's whats got me puzzled--but im taking out the pads tomorrow
It could be that the rear hub nut isn't tight enough, allowing the brake rotor to make contact with the caliper/mount when braking during a sharp turn.
The hub nut is a 36mm castle nut that gets torqued to at least 250 foot pounds - pull the cotter pin and put a half-inch drive bat handle on it with a four foot piece of pipe over that.
Go weigh yourself and then figure out where to place your foot on the pipe depending on your weight: A 200 lbs you would need to go 16 inches out from the center point of the 36mm socket (12 inches out would be 200 foot pounds at the socket, so 1.25 feet = 250 pounds, etc). Personally, I torque them to close to 300 ft. Lbs.
Put the car in neutral and have someone step firmly on the brake while tightening the nut to hold the wheel fast.
this happens during straight line braking and only during the last few feet of the stop and only sometimes and theres no marks on the rotor-and I do have a torque wrench
pulled the pads from the rr caliper--one small spot showed more wear then the rest so I sanded both down flat and chamfered the leading and trailing edges-put it back together-bedded them in by stopping several times from 20mph, then 40 and then 50-drove 20 miles with no noise-looks like its fixed
