Brake System

I have a question about residual pressure valves.I am changing my single master cyl to a dual setup.The manual indicates pressure valves are required at the junctions where the brake lines are connected to the master cyl.Does anyone know where I may obtain these fittings or do I really need to use them at all? I have drum brakes all around.Thanks for any suggestions. Rick

Hello...maybe I am not accurate but a double system MC - two lines coming out of the master cylinder- do not require pressure residual devices. I have disk brakes all arround and do not have one...no long ago I had disk in the front and drum in the rear...I did not had one....
it will be necesary if you have a single line out of the master and then you may need a proportional valve. otherwise the master has already calibrated hydraulic diferential. It is my opinion...maybe someone else will have a diferent technical advice.

You only require a residual valve if you are running disc brakes all the way around. Some people will say they have discs all the way around and have no problems. However, your rear brakes will not function to full efficiency without a residual valve (2-4lbs).

Early 356c and 911's ran four wheel discs without a valve. Later model 911's all had valves on the master cylinder between the rear main line and the master cylinder.

I had a problem with my Resto-custom 67 VW convertible when four wheel discs were installed. The rear brake rotors showed minimal wear while the front brakes wore out. Installed a valve from a Hot Rod supplier and had no more problems. Stopping distance was reduced.

It all depends on what you are running. Disc and drum is ok without valve.

Hi everyone.I did find the valves on the Prowler site.I may not need them as your responses indicate.The product description says they are used to stop the back flow of fluid if the height of the master cyl is below the height of the wheel cyl.I should be OK.Thanks again, RickS

You know Rick if it's the other way around you won't need the brakes anyway, you'll need a rollbar.
