I just wanted to let everyone know that This is a super car!
I live close to larry and have spent many days over at his house wishing my car looked as good as his. Larry has added some pretty cool things to the car that do not effect the overall integrety.
The paint job is really nice and he take great care of it.

Larry, sorry to see that you have to part with the beast but It's good news to see that your business is growing.

Let me know what the price is on the hardtop if you don't sell to the person who is interested.

Good news, I am back on track with mine. Lost interest for a while trying to make my adjustable spring plates work but it is now fixed.

Good luck.
Bring it by this weekend if you have some time. I hear the weather should be nice.

Thanks for the kind words John. Yes, if it is not raining and if I don't have to work I'll swing by. I'd like to see what progress you have made on yours. You know, I really wish I could find a way to keep mine but cash is alittle tight right now and I have to get a truck real soon. Renting one every week is getting old and expensive. You know we put in a new powder coating system at work so if you need anything coated just let me know. Of course we get this after I spent big bucks getting all the speedster parts coated.

Hope to see you this weekend,

Larry
Denish, pardon my butting in. Since Kirk's (VS's owner) information varies, I felt it was my duty to jump in. Once, he told me over the phone that he used genuine VW of Mexico crate engines. Of course, as we know, OEM crate engines are only 1600 CC. It doesn't make much sense to disassemble a fully factory assembled long block just to machine the case for larger cylinders and pistons. I imagine that the basic 1600 cc engine is a VW Mexico longblock and the rest with larger cylinders (1776's on up) are done from scratch. I have a 2004 VS with a 1776 cc that I ordered new and now that I've tinkered with it a little; this is what it has: VW Brazil engine block and VW Mexico heads. I don't know exactly what he's using for engine internals.
Ricardo, A crate 1600 motor does not have to be completely disassembled. You only have to take the heads off and replace the cylinders with 90.5 pistons and cylinders. You can add some slightly bigger valves to your heads or buy new ones with larger valves. You only have to take the case apart if you want to doe something with a cam. The carbs that come with the 1600 that Kirk sells is ok, but of course you can go bigger.

Gabe
Ricardo,
My Mexican crate VS "house motor" with hydraulic valves, imploded as well at just over 1000 miles. The pedigree is definitely prone to self destruction. When I do it over again, I'm calling on CB or the local VW Guru that put Paul's (now Brian's) 1776 together. All South of the Border parts were replaced with quality components and the thing was a screamer in the hands of a true R&D testing guy:Paul.~R
Hi Denish,

Kirk at VS said he had this motor built at CB. I'm not sure where all the components came from but this was after he had his problems with the Mexican motors. I had a local VW mechanic look it over and he saw nothing unusual about it.
Yes, the hard top has brand new windows that go with it (still has the protective liner on them). The car does not have roll up windows. And of course the soft top has the side windows/curtains as well.

Best regards,

Larry
The lucky person who buys my speedster will also get the matching "mini moto speedster" for free. This is a high quality (not China made) 25cc pocket bike built by Kikker 5150 in California and customized to match my speedster. Will handle riders up to 250 lbs. and a top speed of about 25 mph. Kikker offers a bunch of hop up parts and chrome parts as well. This bike is a lot of fun at shows & meets. Anyway, I though it should go with the car.

Thanks,

Larry

Hey Larry,
Sorry I missed you this weekend. I made some good progress anyway. I had to buy a sledge hammer and have a talk with my car but after a few hits, It started to listen... I'm not kidding either!
What do you think about driving the car to Charlotte the week of April 7-10 or just Sat. 4/9/05? The annual car show and sale is that weekend. This is the one I told you about that has between 3 and four miles of ALL classic cars for sale! This would be the place to fetch a good price on your car.
If you can, Call me today and we can discuss...231-1392 (w) or 286-9383 (H)
Did you get a buyer for the hardtop?

John
Hi Guys,

My name is Ray Matthews, and I am the proud new owner of Larry's silver beauty. My wife, 12 year old son, Erik, and I live in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island - are are excited to introduce such a car of this calibre to our small, B.C. town of about 70,000.

In my 40 years of living on VI, I have yet to see a Speedster navigating our coastal hwy - so we may have to expand your wonderous tradition of car shows, and I would love to invite you all to our beautiful part of the world (Long Beach and Tofino 90 minutes north - Vancouver (Site of 2010 Olympics 90 minutes by car ferry)...

For the record, Larry has been a prince to deal with - and if his car is half as impressive as his business / interpersonal deportment, our family is in for some glorious experiences.

Cheers, all...

HI Ray, and we're all Speedsterholics!

Actually there is a pretty good bunch of us NW Speedster and Roadster guys in the great NW. If you have registered as an owner you can check the registry that lists owners by location, closest to you in order. I know Dave and Linda Holmwood are in Victoria and believe there is another one on your Island. Rick Davis in Chilliwac and quite a few in Washington and Oregon. There has been talk of having a NW tour and I think you'd have plenty of interest.

In late June in McMinneville, OR, just west of Portland is the Parts Obsolete Camp out that attracts lots of 356's and replicas. Get on the Parts Obsolete web site and click on Campout 05.Some of us replica guys and gals will be there and would like to meet you and your car!

Bruce
Thanks for the great welcome Bruce...

And kudos to Vince for the great 'Speedster Coaching' that started my long and much anticipated learning curve on 'Speedstermania'...

Looking forward to meeting you all at an TBA event soon, and sharing a pint or two as we gaze past our wives and towards our cars...

Cheers,
Ray
Well it was a nice sunny Saturday here and I was getting some things together for Ray's new speedster. the more I gathered the more it turned to a somber day. The speedster had shared the garage with my boxster for some time now and I think I even got some bad looks from the boxster. Anyway, I'm sure it is going to a good home and will be enjoyed by Ray and his family for years to come. John, you know this means I'll have to come over and help with yours to get my speedster fix.

Regards,

Larry
Hey Larry,

I can only imagine the mixed emotions...'but it certainly will be in good hands and we will say a toast to you on our maiden drive.

'Presently looking for the best way to tpt. to its new home, and will keep you posted...and the rest of the gang on this great new site.

Cheers, and good night all...

Ray
