His words begin here....

As many of you are aware, Chamonix has been manufacturing the Chamonix Spyder and Speedster for almost 20 years now. We are a Brazilian company with about 45 employees and a medium sized production facility.

We manufacture our own frames, bodies, and many of our smaller parts. We source the majority of the remaining parts required on the domestic market. We produce between 10 and 15 units per month for distribution around the world.

Our product was successfully marketed for many years in the USA by Mr. Chuck Beck of Beck Development, under his tradename. Through his tireless efforts and extreme talents our product gained a very high level of respect in the Specialty Automotive industry.

Chuck retired several years ago and sold his USA distribution rights to a company that formed under his name and we instructed our exclusive USA importer to deliver product to this new company, which they did.

Several months ago it became neccessary to cancel this distribution agreement. That was completed and all appropriate parties were notified.

We can only assume that there remains a small amount of inventory in the "system" and that these will eventually find their way to satisfied customers.

Our USA importer was instructed to cease deliveries to them , sell the "in transit" inventory (which is completed). and to establish new distribution.

We will market our Spyder, and the all new Spyder S, watercooled version in the USA under our Chamonix trade name.

This is an important fact, as we DO NOT control the prior tradenames that were applied to our product and used in your country.

We are aware of the continued use of the old name and wish to state that, in the case of the Spyder, this is no longer our product. We are in no way affiliated with any recently formed company preporting to sell Spyders under the old trade name.

We remain commited to manufacturing our quality product. We will continue to provide product through our exclusive USA importer and the distribution channels established in concert with our current successful Speedster distribution.

We invite all of you to visit our website:

http://www.chamonixcars.com.br

All of our products are featured there, and we look forward to having an English translation soon. World wide distribution map is also available under "distribuidores" link.

I wish to thank all of the people that have made our product so successful. Not only those who made this business function, but also to everyone that has enjoyed owning one of our "babies".

Thank you.

So you want to translate all of that into names and people we can understand? Is he saying Carey won't be selling them anymore? Or is he saying Carey will be the only one selling them.

This is just a little too general for us to understand without putting names on all the pronouns in the letter (they, the distributor, the importer,)????????

Remember we are on the outside looking in, not the inside looking out?
Steve,

This is saying that even though you may see a "Beck Spyder" in the future, it is no longer controlled by us, Chuck, or Chamonix, only the name.
My company, Special Edition, will continue to make the Beck Speedster and is now also making the Chamonix 550 Spyder (set up for aircooled, swingaxle) and Spyder S (set up for watercooled, DeDion/coilover rear susp). I will be adding information to the site that explains more about the spyders and the differences in the two soon.

Best regards

Carey
Carey! Now, I know that Chamonix and Replicar are not the same. Thanks. But!!.......I have a new question: Are you Makers or you import and build? I ask these because as you may reed somewere else, I'm looking forward to build one my self and I only have these two options in Brazil, and is clear so far that Chamonix = Becks = SpecialEditionsInc is a great, beautifull well done replica, that I wouln't hesetate on buying a Kit from Them. At this point I can not say the same about Replicar. Will see......!
Ah....One more thing! Can you tell me how can I make contact with someone in Brazil? I wrote many mails to them and never recived an answer.
Thank you sir.
You should call Newton Masteguin (Pres. of Chamonix) at 00551140175726. Tell him Carey directed you to call.
My family has been invloved with Chamonix from day one, and the Masteguin family since before Chamonix existed.

Sorry for all of the confusion...

To clarify this and the other Brazilian post:
Special Edition, Inc. is offering the following products:
Beck Speedster
Chamonix Spyder
Chamonix Spyder S
and will soon offer the '64 356C Cabriolet replica

Best

Carey
Sorry Steve,

you make a good point. When I translated this I was thinking from the viewpoint of myself, some 24+ years now in the Brazilian Specialty Car business. (So it made sense to me.)

When I say:

Manufacturer - Chamonix.
Importer - my company, whose name is irrelevent. It only serves as a conduit to the distributor.

Chuck Beck (Beck Development) was the distributor/assembler/ head guru/ for many years.

He sold 3 years ago or so to "the company that named themselves after him". you figure that one out.

The long and the short of it is. All Chamonix product is now exclusively sold through Special Edition, Inc. and their dealer network.

No one outside of the Special Edition network is involved, despite any claim, by any company to the contrary.

This can be verified by checking the Chamonix website distribution link posted. You need not take my word for any of this information. Trademark registrations can be verified on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website. The cancellation of former contracts is verifiable as it is recorded in the Civil Registry in S.P. Brazil.

Frankly, after so many years in this business, working and building literally thousands of cars I get a bit touchy when "Slick Willies" with websites loaded with pirated pictures of our hard work pop up with their made up B.S.

It hurts the industry, deceives and confuses truly interested individuals, like yourself, and it is unfair to the men that made this little piece of automotive history possible.

I'll get off my soapbox now. I appreciate your constructive comment on my vague translation. It was literal and I did not want to change his words. Maybe this will help.

Above all, enjoy your cars. A lot of work went into making them happen.

Carey.....Thank you very much for the Data. Anyway that won't help me to have my speedter as in Argentina 1st we have to pay 50% of FOB value + a another big $$$$ to get what here they call the CHAS and 2 nd after that you find out that the car can't be register because a recent Law modification. I'm fuc&%$&%$p.
But not everything is lost. I've found a Guy that use to have a hugh collection of real cars & he made 4 bodys from a real speedter so I'll see what he has. Obiously if I buy one (or all)I'll be asking for help as I can't imagine how to start building a speedster with just de fiberglass bodya and a non exiostance VW donnor. Can you give me some previous advice regarding with what look after carefully once I get to see them.
Thanks again. And I'll keep on chassing my dream!
One more thing, may be I can buy a donor car, just put the body over it and take to brazil to assemble. May be that is the answer to my prears (sure is wrong spell)
Thanks again for your help.
Carey Thanks again. I know now that they are not the same and is also clear how is this Chamonix-Specialedition issue. Did you reed my last post? Look. I don't want to boder you but I realy need a lot of help here. I coudn't find anyone with a speedster and so if I want to self build one my self I'll need a lot of help and information ? Would you mind?

Go on a nice vacation (bring your sawzall). Buy your car. Cut your car into bits. Ship it as
"Parts" (taxed differently). Then rebuild as your own. It's been done many times before
especially in countries like Sweden and such where you pay on market value and not what
you paid.----Crazy, but coming to a country near you.
BRUCE:

THANKS FOR YOUR "INTRESTING" IDEA BUT IS NOT THAT EASY. AS RICHARD(RICARDO)SAYS AFTER YOU GET THE CAR TOGETHER AGAIN YOU CAN'T OBTAIN THE LICENCE. NO FFF(OUTSIDE FACTORY BUILD)CARS CAN BE REGISTER IN THIS COUNTRY. THE ONLY THING LEFT IS TO USE A VW BEETLE DONNOR.

NOW I'M THINKING ON BUYING ONE HERE IN ARGENTINA AND TAKING IT TO BRAZIL TO EITHER CHAMONIX OR REPLICAR.I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION YET ABOUT THESE MAKERS AND PRICES.

CAREY:

DON'T YOU KNOW ANYBODY ELSE AT CHAMONIX. SEEMS TOO MUCH TO CALL "THE ....PRESIDENT".
MR.CAREY:

I DONT KNOW YOUR AGE BUT IF YOU ARE OVER 55, AS I'M 36, MAY BE YOU CAN CALL "THE PRESIDENT" AND TELL HIM THAT A FEW YEAR AGO ON ONE RUSH VISIT TO ARGENTINA YOU MET A BEAUTIFULL GIRL AND ...... WELL NOW AFTER SO MANY YEAR SHE CALLED YOU AND TOLD YOU'U HAVE A WONDERFUL 36 YEARS OLD SON AND TWO GRANDCHILDREN AND YOUR NEW SON IS ALSO A SPEEDSTER LOVER AS HIS DAD AND THE ONLY THING HE WANTS'S A .......VW BEETLE BASED SPEEDSTER KIT.

JUST KIDDING..............BUT MAY BE IS NOT SUCH A BAD IDEA!

BEEING SERIOUS, I REALY WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE AT CHAMONIS.

THANK YOU SIR.
Facundo,

None of our cars are suitable for a VW donor pan. They are all built on their own frame. As for helping you build one on a VW frame, contact me by e-mail and we'll discuss this. There are some dealers in Chile that also might be able to help. Those guys might know the "ins and outs" of getting a car to Argentina.
As for an illegitimate son, it would have to be Kevin, my father. LOL

You can talk to anyone at Chamonix, if you speak Portugeese...

Carey
