I just got my new breather box in from Carey. I've talked to him about what I want to do with it, and I'd like a few opinions.
It's a decent-sized stainless box, about big enough for a quart and a half of oil, rectangular in shape and the size of a hardcover novel. It has six ports and six A/N fittings.
I want two braided lines in from the valve covers and two out to the oil-filler neck. The remaining two holes are vent holes, and Carey suggests that they could lead to the tops of the air cleaners to draw vacuum.
I've also seen them just filtered, like the old hot-rod V-8s used to have. If I did that, the box would have two of the filters this 427 (photo) has in its driver's side valve cover -- but I don't have any experience with lines from the box to the air cleaners and would be afraid oil might get back that way and ooze into them.
Thoughts?

What Carey described sounds like what I have, minus the connection to the oil filler. I've had no problem with oil in the air filters. Here's a somewhat fuzzy picture. The two hoses that come out of the bottom are connected to the valve covers, while the two on the front connect to the air filters. I'm considering replacing all of the oil system plumbing with AN fittings and braided hoses.

Hi there Cory.....The air cleaner approach keeps the box under negative pressure, in theory. If the engine produces significant blow-by, it may indeed suck oil into the carbs.

The "filter" approach is doable, but if the blowby is there, then you may end up with an overlay of oil on everything....

I'm not familiar with your engine, other than watching it leave me in the dirt, so I don't know about you blow-by situation.....

If blow-by is not serious, I would go for the air cleaner route...

Thats all I have on my engine, and you know how I love 2nd & 3rd.

Say "HI" to all....
