Got a call form Greg at Vintage Motorcars yesterday. The conversation started something like this. "Hi Bruce ! Well, your rear suspension is finished and looks perfect. Now you need to make a decision about the front. We will continue on whatever path you want and here's the options. The builder will try to build in the front suspension (double "A" wishbone/coil-over-shock) which will be pretty involved, or try to install the Brazilian front suspension assembly I have here at the shop. This one will be very involved because of it's integration to a frame basically set up for a VW beam. there will be difficulties with the pedal assembly, the from body panels and so on." "Of course, all of this will take tons of time since we require these new components to be able to be reproduced for future production runs". "Do you want to wait ?
Well, a couple days ago I was looking at the date on my original deposit receipt and found that it was January 2019. I'm out here 4 years now. I asked Greg, what do you think and, of course, being the good business man that he is, and the superb customer relations guy he is, he responds with, "It's up to you Bruce !" "I will do what ever you want to do, we can continue the way we are or just go with the VW beam and R&S steering, It's up to you."
I already knew that he was pulling out of Spyder production and use of Subaru engines in Speedsters and Coupe's. (a smart business decision for him) Sooo.... I decided to pull the plug on the front suspension and go with the VW beam/R&P steering. So the car will be returned to VMC, the front frame and beam installed, frame powder coated, then sent to Mexico to install the body to the frame, returned to VMC for all drivetrain and related component installation and paint. Right now it will have a red frame and black body
Here are the most recent photos of the rear suspension. Now completed.
Greg.....If you read this, correct me if I got something wrong.....Watercooled Bruce
