After having a great time visiting Charles Gardiner on Saturday, September 10th, Sarah and I made our way into downtown Atlanta and spent the night at the Sheraton. We had dinner at Pittypat's Porch, complete with a proper mint julep to start and dined on Southern quisine at its best.

Sunday, we made our way north and east to have a look at the bug fair in Taccoa, Ga. We saw some really great V-dubs of many variaties and one lone original Speedster. I had a nice chat with Jake Raby and came away impressed with committment and depth of knowledge. If I ever get around to building a outlaw or some other wild thing, I may just look him up again.

On the way home we visited Talulah Falls, a grand place for viewing nature at its best and picking up some of the history of the area. Among other things, the area provided the backdrop for many movies, including "The Great Locomotive Chase" (c. 1955) and "Deliverance" which is a movie that probably needs no explanation or introduction.

We made our way back through the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee and drove the "tail of the dragon" which is the infamous route 129. This is a road that people come from all parts of the world to drive. Confession time. We were not in the Cabriolet, but would love to drive some of this route in it.

I drove what I think is the tail on my way over to visit SAW. I'll be honest for a Iowa boy it was a little bit stressful. Most of our turns have stop signs on them.

LOL nice Deliverance reference Nolan.

The interesting thing I noticed in the picture is on the split window, look at how much venting that engine bay had!!!!!! Man its no wonder we have to work so much harder to get the VW engine to stay cool in our replica bodies.
