Well bugout 62 is over and I think a good time was had by all.
Cory showed up w/ Wolfgang driving his wild rig. He said he was expecting to take a short ride around the block, but ended driving the Hoopty from Springfield to the show - said it was great fun - maybe that will light a fire under him to complete his Speedster.
Cory had a bunch people around his car the whole day - I don't think he even got time to eat lunch - it was a big hit.
We talked him into driving in the slalom event - although I think he was ready to try it anyway - and got some time on the track.
The race was set up on a oval so it was real tricky on some of the turns w/ a couple of guys spinning out w/ no damage. The rear end of Cory's car seemed to get loose a couple of times and he may need to do some tuning before his next time out on the track - I'm sure he will give more details when he gives his driving details.
He also had some bad luck right before his run w/ his header breaking right below the cyl and had to be wired together ( could hear it popping on the track ).
One thing for sure - I believe he was having fun, so it was all good.
He had to bum a helmet from a friend and had some real radical racing boots ( See his pictures ). I also took some pictures of the timed event ( I will let Cory post those ).
I got some much needed front disk brakes for my ride at a great price, but ended up needing to bum 2.00 bucks from a friend as the guy would not go down and it was all the money I had on me ( thanks Cory I owe you )
It was a long day and by the time the racing event was over the awards had already been handed out. Cory ended up winning a third place in his event ( I think - Radical Rides? ) and according to the judges it was only the incomplete paint that held him back from the top award - ( I still think the silver looks good ).
Said some quick good bys and headed home.
Hope to get together again soon w/ all.
Dale

In addition to the Ghia disc brakes - Dale scored 1st place in Kit Car category (he took 1st at the Spring bug-out too!) His bright red MGTD is prestine and about as authentic TD as I've ever seen - only the fat tires give it away! Even has real knockoffs on the wheels. Can't wait to see the Speedster build he contemplates come to life. Yup, I'm hooked - put my CVC joints back on and hooked up the axels so getting back to building it.

Slalom commentator introduced Cory's car as "the Mutt" and after a couple runs, announced "Oh, look at the Mutt wagging his tail." There was a occasional snarl out of the cracked header pipe too.
Man, what a fantastic time. Wolfgang, Dale and buddies Joe and Jim Bradley made the day absolutely fantastic.
The header broke largely because old parts were used when it was made, and I got lazy and never had the ceramic coating put on. Being remedied this week; the pipes are already out of the car.
Funny about the racing "tech." You had to have a helmet, but nothing else. Have a look at the "race" footwear on that bird-legged guy, below.
Johnny-on-the-spot Wolfgang had everything one could possibly ask for in his garage ... enough perhaps to BUILD a car ...
Kudos and thanks. Jim and Wolf both drove the thing, and other than the race track, I spent the whole day in a pickup. How did that work out? Hmmm. ...
Anyway, no harm done except I'll be changing oil and plugs. Engine's fine, even after Jim's "nursing" it all the way home at 70-75 mph.
That's Jim on the left and Wolfgang on the right.
More captions to follow tonight; enjoy the shots!
(Photos of the track are compliments of Dale; good shootin', Tex!)
