I'll report back and let you guys know, I ordered up some inserts from VS...
Keith, be careful if you have to cut them to fit. My rubber strips were cut too short and the ends kept popping out until I came up with a fix.

You throw the short pieces away. Cram too long of a piece in it, knowing they draw up.
Ove, when I got my car 4 years ago, the rubber strips would pop out from time to time. Replaceing them was a low priority at the time.
I used a piece of 1/2 " wide black plastic "Deltec" cable tie, cut it into a small triangle and slid it between the metal strip and the end of the rubber. You have to get very close to see it and if you do both ends it looks like it grew there. I would expect it would be a common problem on older cars. My car is not a show car and the coin can be spent on other things.

No matter how hot and flexible I can't get the VS strips in. They are a good bit thicker than the CMC rubber strip. I suppose I could buy the chrome and all, but thats expensive for just a rubber strip replacement. There has to be a boat bumper company that these strips from the CMC come from. They can't be molded just for CMC. Any rate, looks like I'll have some VS rubber bumper strips in the classifieds... it was worth a try. Boiling, heat gun... nothing works.
I'm going to ask one more time before I spend $225 on new VS decor strips. Mine are fine, but I can't find the inserts for my CMC. I have spent hours googling mcmaster, taco marine, etc. I can't imagine CMC had custom special rubber extrude rubber strips made! Anybody have a secret " gettin' place"? Thanks.

Did you try MG Magic? They have the old CMC Speedster left overs plus other CMC kitcar parts ( MG TD etc. )
I think Brad may still have some some parts in Florida although I heard the bulk of it is now in CA. - anybody know?

Yeah I tried MG magic a while back.. They didn't have them.

It would seem to me that heat of any source would cause the rubber inserts to expand, making them harder to insert. How about keeping them cool and spraying with a lubricant like WD-40 to slide them into place?

The vintage speedster rubber isn't even close! It's huge compared to CMC's trim
